bigmd- when i race i use the various hpi rims with steppins (or bowties depending on the track) in the rear and the stock tires and rims upfront, the traxxs rims are for summer bashing. and yes you need to use the trxs hexs with trxs rims, unless you dont mind tweeking a set of alum. hpi hexs from a e-10

yeah thanks bud.i figured it out.i was gong to dremel a set of the hpis but i ordered a set of traxxas that are slightly wider then the stock traxxas hubs.which shoul work out fine since the traxxas dish rims have a narrower offset then the hpi's.

i was told some of the wider offsets will effect the way the rear handles but i never noticed before.if i get a chance i'll try some, i got a few hpi rims with race tires on em, that i used to race on my xxxt.

How does Associated silicone diff grease work in the 'Storm? Got some stuff today like the graphite front arms, seems kinda heavy for graphite though.

I used associated's black diff grease in my Firestorm, it loves it. Using it actually fixed my grinding problem i was having a week or so ago.

Hi just joined the site. I have been contemplating between a few vehicles to buy. I cant decide between the Firestorm flux, AE B44, Losi XXX4, or XXXT. It would be just for light bashing around (backyard and track) and possibly moving up to club racing later. Just wondering what some of you might think. I have nitro vehicles but as for electric I would be starting from the ground up so cost is an issue with me since I would need to buy a charger and batteries to get going. And for that reason I have been leaning towards the RTR Flux since I wouldnt need to buy a motor, esc, and radio system.

Cost effective + raceable + durable for bashing = E-Firestorm Flux. All the others you mentioned are more along the lines of pure racers than the Firestorm.

So how good are the E-Firestorm and the Flux for racing? Does anyone here race them and did you have to modify to be competitive?

Yes this is for both versions of the the E-Firestorm.

I really need to get out an drive mine some more. We are close to winter up here and generally can see a lot of snow. I am not sure if I should run the car in the snow but I figure that going without it for the winter is probably a smart idea.

Any one have a thought on how to keep the front end down at top speed? (est around 35-40 mph with the 7 cell battery).

If you're drag racing, stick some weight up front. If not, then tame your settings, I use my 4600 at the track all the time, almost all of the settings are taken back quite a bit, it's all about control, that's what wins dirt track races.

But if you are going for top speed, I had a Traxxas Bandit that I had to anchor fishing weights to the front to keep the nose down so I could keep control of it for speed runs. It worked a little bit, maybe softer springs in front, harder in back...

It can be very competitive. I'd start with a stronger servo and heavier weight shock oil, probably between 40-45 weight.

I will be racing on a track i tired of
running up and down the street even
though that improved my driving skills onroad
and it showed me how to set the truck up
for on road handling but now its time to
get dirty. As for servos i am a futaba freak
will a s3305 servo be good for racing or
do i need more strenght or speed? Also
for springs and shock oils i use soft springs
all around aond 40 to 45 wt in oil thats onroad
of coarse will i need to change springs also?

I'm running FlUX/LIPO and the front end is pretty stable except for quick take offs when sometimes it flips. Do you have the battery all the way forward?

It is a 7 cell batter so there is no way to make it any more forward than it is. I might try to lower the setting a little and see if that helps. I dont know my body is a little beat up now from the crashs and what not so it probably does not have as much down force as it used to. I was going full speed and the car flipped onto its body. It was wicked funny to watch but put some nice scapes in the body as well. I am going to try the fishing weights to see if that helps.

I might also try to rig something up for more down force as long as it does not take away from off roading.

If they're not that much smaller than a normal stadium truck tire, I guess you can pick up whatever foams you want and trim to fit. I've never bought tires that didn't come with foams though, even all the HPI tires I've bought came with foams.

has anyone adapted any other bodies to the firestorm, proline, hpi ,etc....i like this http://www.hpiracing.com/products/en/7161/
but i know the nitro firestorm has diffewrent shock towers.i was thinking of cutting holes in the body to let the towers come through, but im thinking that may be a little hack.

for you guys doing top speed runs, have you tried using the rear wing off a street car? just mount the wing to the front of your truck and it should give you enough down force to keep the front down. i remember seeing an '80's era lamborghini countash with a wing on its nose

bigmd- i had the mx-1 on mine but the rear shock towers are too tall, if you readjust them the body sits a little high, my body was old so i just cut holes in the bed area to clear the shock mounts. if you look in my gallery you'll see the mx-1 on a tl-01
