I can't wait till I get home tonight - my kit should be on my doorstep!!
Whats the record for assembling one of these? (I mean, I know that's the fun part but I'm the type of obsessive person who can't go to sleep till it's done )

RE: Official DB-01 Durga Thread
It took me about 10-12 hours to do it right. That's with having to use the crappy stock screws though, I probably could have shaved 30 min to an hour if I hadn't had to fight those screws so much.
As a minimum upgrade, I'd suggest to everyone to get the 3racing titanium screws, it will save you a lot of frustration, stripped screws and a sore forearm. I don't like to use power tools on putting screws into plastic as I like to feel the tension as they go in.

Are the 3racing screws still phillips head?
I ordered the DB01 hex screw kit from tony's screws (http://www.tonysscrews.com/main.sc), and they did me well.

I used the Tamiya hex screws on mine. Druss, looked at a 501X body and the humps where the motor is are towards the front because of the motor being mounted more forward, are you going to cut the body out to fit around the motor?

LOL, that never occured to me.... My 501X is a shelf queen right now, haven't even run it yet.
On another note, I just swapped out the VXL system in my Durga for a Mamba Max one, the esc fits much better but haven't had a chance to test yet. Still trying to figure out whether I want to keep my basher brushed or put the xcelorin system I have in it. I'm thinking of keeping it brushed so that I can run it in the winter and not worry so much about getting the motor wet (still have to water proof the esc and receiver though).

RE: Official DB-01 Durga Thread
I tried when I first got it and it's too slow. With the 17t my 2 yr old son could out run it, if you put the 23t on then the motor overheats too much. Maybe a 19t or 20t pinion would get decent speeds without overheating the motor. It's probably a good speed for a beginner or small kid but not for older kids (including all of us).

I run it with the stock motor because I haven't be able to afford a better motor yet. Anyways The stock motor is horrible for the durga to me at least

RE: Official DB-01 Durga Thread
Probably just best to try them. See if you like the speeds and check the temps of the electronics and batteries after a run. Find a good compromise between temp and performance. You could also get other pinions. I've got every pinion between 17t and 25t to trial and it cost me about $20.

Hi Ttam Says Blarg. I have been racing with a Todd Putnam 27T with a 3000mah Nimh and I have found it to be excellent and I think that the motor that you have picked would be similar. I am going to put my 19T in next month because of the new class we are going to start to promote otherwise I would stay with the 27T until next year when I will go brushless.

Don't know, but I do know that it is a fraction quicker than the 20T that comes in the Kyosho 4WD off road kit

Well, here it is:
took me 6 hours (minus paint) with the stock screws.
This was my first Tamiya kit.
No action shots yet, but I should have some soon

Nice pics engineerjoe! I was considering using white for mine (I've got a lot leftover, and don't want to have to order a Tamiya metallic red I like), but wasn't sure how the white would turn out. I see it turned out well - I might just use my leftover white after all.

Thanks guys. I am really happy with the color. I was a little skeptical about the white at first b/c most durgas I've seen are a darker color, and they all look good.
I think the white contrasts the black wheels really well.
I've been running the NIMH pack for now till I can make a few more 3s A123 lipos that'll fit in this thing.
