True, but I want something that will last.

If I get the mamba and just use my 4600mah nimh, will it be less powerful than if I used a lipo?

yes, but if you get those Trinity Reference 3000mAh batteries for $20 each, you will have some fun and get used to your car, then when you have the money you can get LiPo. Maybe when you get it is fast enough for you already.

clamber,

i would agree with chris for 300.00 you could have a nice set up you can find some good deal on ebay
buy a upgraded motor and dial in the suspension.
some people do not like lipo's battery i would never go back
do a little research and you can save your self some money

when you run a brushless system there much more efficient so it will give you longer run times
i run 2 cell lipo's 2900 mah with goat system in my crawler and get at least 1 hour run time

What would be better for just offroad bashing? A mamba 4600 or 5700?

depends. Do you want more torque and little bit longer run times or more power? I would get the 5700 and gear it down a bit.

They both need you to change gearing. Why are you soo hesistant to do anything that requires work?

How are you going to learn? It's pretty easy. You take it apart and remember how it goes back. If not look at the exploided views. Just tinker with the truck and soon you will know it like the back of your hand.

all you do is just open the gear cover and take out the pinion by removing a set screw. You have to do it yourself to learn what to do.

No, 3-4 screws out, 3-4 screws in. Pretty easy. The hardest part is getting the right mesh, but that's simple.

They are really the same motor.

One just TRIES to make more power per volt it receives. That doesn't really make it faster. All that means is that the 5700kv will spin more RPM then the 4600Kv. Remember, that the 4600kv will stay cooler, have more torque and runtime. To gear up the 4600kv, is the same pretty much as the 5700kv. Try gearing your motor up. It will increase the temperatures, but it will give you less torque. Both of them can be way toned down with punch control. You can make the 5700kv just as mild as the 4600kv. That's one of the great MM features, take advantage of it. I love how people always assume that the higher Kv just means FASTER. Incase you guys didn't know the Vxl motor is 3500kv (very low). But guess what, it runs cool, and people can gear it to the moon. That's why it can hit the 70 mph. It's right there with the 5700kv. All you have to do is gear it up.

i'm alittle confused to there not same. 4600 you have gear up and will run hotter to perform like 5700
5700 like a 9 turn and 4600 like a 12 turn
in my opinion buy the motor/esc/etc.that best for your application

the last vxl 3500 with a 11.1v 3 cell lipo geared to the ass went into thermal shut down after two pass

My bad. Pretty much, higher kv just means that for every volt the battery gives the motor, the motor will try to make 'X' amount of power. So a lower Kv motor is doing less work, and a higher kv is doing more work for the power it gets. If you geared up a low kv motor, that's getting more speed and running hotter, just like a higher kv. With the same gearing, the higher kv spins more Rpm, but it will always heat up more. Different cars have different systems. The on road cars are good with 6900/7700kv mambas. The offroad is best with 4600 or 5700, although I've heard the 5700 runs pretty hot.

It all depends on what you want. Just look at what people gear the MM, then look at what they gear the vxl's. They both have similar performance because you can change the gearing.

Ok, I get it kinda. Im still not sure which to get . The 4600 or the 5700. I think Ill get the 5700. What do I have to get to gear it right? Do I just need a pinion gear, or do I need more than that? What size(s)?

OK guys need your input. I have a DT, with a full vxl system installed. I havent changed the gearing at all, but im thinking i might have to. Although 90% of my runs are just up and down my asphault street. Ideas? Down to 14? Or ok at 16 stocker pinion?

PS, Ill unlike the pic ill be running max amp 7 cell 4700 mah.

I know, I Know what a shame. I just dont get out to dirt often. I just tried it with the 7 cell max amp packs. Very tight fit since they are side by side, but they fit. But Im definately going to need a wheely bar, especially if I go down a couple teeth to 14 and get that bottom end torque.

If any of the esc, motor, or battery are getting too hot then go with a smaller pinion. If temps are fine then you can run the stock gearing. Just keep an eye on temps and let er rip.
