OK, well, my first two drives. Uneventful. I'll stand by my build quality comments. It was built well, but it's no speed machine. How they'd get thirty out of this without brushless is beyond me.

The truck, in stock form with a good 6 cell, can't accelerate fast enough to get out of it's own way. Traxxas geared this to the moon. Bad idea. It's big and heavy,it needs a smaller pinion. Sure, once rolling it's moving pretty quick, but stopping it, turning it around and getting it back up to speed on a corner, forget it, boring. It works ok on packed or minor loose dirt trails but for anything similar to off road is wishful thinking.

Also, unless you plan on running hard packed dirt or pavement all the time, it's even slower. I can outrun it across my freshly mown lawn. I literally can. It's like Walmart truck fast in anything but putting green short grass, hard dirt or pavement.

I haven't experienced this Titan 12 turn before and I'm not fond of it one bit. Gets hot fast, no power down low. If you put that optional pinion that comes in the box on this truck you will fall asleep waiting for it to pick up speed.

I plan on putting a new motor and changing to a smaller pinion. I hope this helps. I think it will.

Stock form, the Duratrax EXT will leave it sitting in the dust. As will just about any inexpensive 540 motor truck.

Traxxas, your choice of power and gearing disappoints me. You made such a cool truck, well built, and underpowered and over geared it.

OK, I changed to a 17 turn and a 17 tooth pinion.

New Truck! Now this is fun. Faster than stock by far and launches hard like it should. Squatting down and skipping off the line, turn and snap the gas, kick the rear out and drift for a bit.

hpiguy, check the settings on the stock ESC. Mine was set to profile 2, 50% throttle, and was as slow as you describe. I reprogrammed it to profile 1, 100% throttle, and it scoots along pretty well now with a 2s 6000mah MaxAmps lipo. I was as upset as you were but now have regained confidence in my dessision to purchase a Traxxas product. This is my fist experience with Traxxas and I'm pretty impressed.

Yes, it's set to 100% on all levels.

The new motor and pinion made all the difference.

I enjoyed my first run with the Slash. Like I said before, I'm pretty new to RC so I can't really compare speed, but I had a load of fun with it in the parking lot and then on some gravel and loose dirt. I liked the fact that it actually looked like the real trucks, especially how the back end dropped down under acceleration and the body sway when cornering. All in all, I'm pleased with the finished product. Ran an 8.4V battery with the stock pinion gear and was pleased with the acceleration.

The inside is dusty as heck right now, but I figure that can be brushed off or blown out pretty easily. Any recommendations for cleaning around the motor?

I just noticed this truck on traxxas's website about a week ago and loved it ever since. I think its a great idea and just looks fun. Also with a dremel it looks as if I could removed some serious excess weight from that chassis...would have to hold it in person to see if the structural integrity would be affected.

Thanks everyone for your reviews, It will be my next rc vehicle.

p.s. They are all over ebay right now for about 185 with free shipping.

Thanks!

Depends on what you mean. Does it jump like a Tmaxx? NOPE. Does it jump like a nice scale CORR truck? For sure.

It's not a big air truck, never claimed to be. It hops off curbs like they aren't there and it absorbs bobbles in the road like a Caddy. But if you want a big sky machine, no it isn't for that. I'd say max jump heighth before it slams the tail down in stock form is a 12 inch drop. Stiffen the springs up and then you can get more air.

The Slash jumps and handles very similar to the 1:1 short course trucks........................

I finally got mine on Friday and I will be throwing a Mamba Max 5700 in it tonight.

Here is apic of mine next to my 16.8 E-Maxx...........

They jump VERY well for what they are. As someone else said, it cannot be compared to that of a tmaxx, etc...but its design is quite amazing and its very smooth and stable when jumping.

either use a straw and blow (joke, i dont want to be the cause of someone hyperventalating) or an air-compressor with an air nozel

I got the Slash 2 days ago and I love it! Its a basher. I went through the water with it, jumped it. The acceleration is ok for a truck of its size and it handles awesome in the dirt. Looks like the real thing. and for only $200 you cant beat it. its my favorite RC because you can beat it to the ground get it wet and muddy and it keeps going! Traxxas did an awesome job on this one.

My local tracks are having this class also BOX STOCK. Be interesting to watch thats for sure, but I got the E-firestorm so I'm sticking with it.
I have to turn marshal the slashes this weekend.

i ALMOST GUARENTEE YOU THIS CLASS IS ONLY GONNA COME DOWN TO DRIVING SKILL.
SO IF A 20 YEAR RACER BEATS YOU, DONT BE SURPRIZED...LOL

Picking up my Slash in the afternoon. We will run a Slash Stock class at our local track with no spec on battery with the 12T motor. What does everybody suggest as a battery for the stock motor for a 5 minute qualifer and main?
