if your gonna balloon it, make sure to give it an air hole or two, otherwise it won't be able to properly cool.
What I did (for my old XL-5 ESC) was cut a hole slightly bigger than the footprint of the ESC into the lid of a small ziplock container. Mount it by popping holes in the lid where nearby screws are and putting the screws through the holes, holding it down. Face it bottom-up so you can attach and detach the container part, and cut small holes for wires. you have to make the hole in the lid a bit bigger than the ESC because it needs air to cool.

mgm esc have a coating over the curcuit boards to make them splash proof. I've had both of my 160amp mgms under water many times without issues. Also the new Castle mmm is waterproof.
I havent had issues with my motors from water either???

I had to send in my Sidewinder ESC recently, castle said even though I drove it through a puddle, it had a silicon coating over it like mentioned above. They covered it under warranty because water shouldn't have penetrated the coating.

RE: waterproof brushless speed control?
Does anybody know if that aquacraft esc has reverse? It doesn't say on tower or aquacraft's website. I'm looking for something brushless and waterproof that will hold more than 7 cells that is within my budget. I'm looking to spend no more than $170 or so for a brushless ESC and Motor to go into my Axial AX10. If that's not do-able, that's cool, I'll just have to save some more $$. I just figured w/ all the stuff they have for boats and cars I just may be able to piece something together. There are all the waterproofing techniques which I'll employ as well, it's just that if the manufacturer calls it "waterproof" they gotta honor the warranty, ya dig?

It doesn't necessarily have to run more than 7 cells, but the specs of the LRP said 130watts at 7.2v. That's kinda weak, right? I'd like to have something that will run strong in a bigger vehicle like the Axial.

The LRP is meant for only up to 8.5T / 10.5T BL motors.. (depends on whether you go for the Pro version or not)
8.5T isn't too slow..

RE: waterproof brushless speed control?
Anyone else notice that the manufacturer says that the esc is waterproof but they never say about the motor itself. Anybody know for sure. I apologize for all the questions, but I've googled this stuff for a couple hours now and I just can't quite get a clear idea what I need. I was gonna just say screw it, I'll get the LRP combo at Tower, but then I noticed that about the ad listing. They never really say whether or not the motor is waterproof. So, basically what I'm getting here is that finding or improving a brushless esc is not the problem, it's finding a truly waterproof motor. []Right?

How about the Aquacraft ESC mentioned above w/ this motor? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...XMYF2&P=Z#tech They are run together in a boat called the Super Vee 27 if that helps. Also, anyone know if that ESC is reversible?

A boat esc won't be good in a car, If I remember right they are like plane speed controls and have no reverse or brakes. All the Castle ESCs also have coated boards and I haven't had any issues with them getting wet in snow, rain and slush.

I just wanted to put something together that would shoot rooster tails in the mud, man. For real, I'm in central Illinois. Muddy trucks is what we do. I'll more than likely keep it simple and go brushed.

you could always use one of the cheap hobbycity brushless motors, at $25-30 it might be the perfect mud motor, if it burns out, well it was no more expensive than a brushed, and maybe it won't burn out at all. I have a turnigy 3300kv I got from there, decent torque, does NOT run hot (geared conservatively) and due to the low price I will probably run it in the snow this winter.
