Your Favorite brushed motor..
I need a new Brushed motor for offroad ST.
So what do you guys like?? Ive been thinking about the Reedy Stockstar. Or maybe a orion SV2.
Id like to keep it above 19 turns. Just post and let me know what you have ran that you liked..
Theres to many to chose from...And I have bad luck when I just pick up what i think will work.

Tamiya Silvercan Let's me drive around in the house without getting into too much trouble
I did pick up a Team Checkpoint Money Motor (19t) off of ebay for my F-150 (TA-01/02). It has a nice balance of torque and speed.

I don't see how you could get a 12t titan to run on an 8 cell. I ran an 8 cell 9.6 v on my 100% stock xl-5 and it lasted literally 7 mintues. Do you need to get it down to run an 8 cell? The engine was sizzling after about 1 minute.

RE: Your Favorite brushed motor..
the only decent brushed motor I ever ran was a $50ish trinity D5 flatliner 19t
I've never found a motor for under $50 that was impressive at all, all the $30 ones I tried were dissapointing orion SV2 15t included

Well, I've been running the Titan 12T on 8-cells for a few years now with 24 / 78 gearing for onroad. It was definitely overgeared and getting too hot, but they still would last a month or so. Now I'm running it with 22 / 84 gearing on a 3-cell LiPo and the motor temp finishes in the 120s and climbs to 130F after it's stopped. So far I've done about five 10 minute runs with the LiPo and so far so good. The problem with the Titan is that if it gets too hot the brushes crack. If you can keep it cool it should last awhile. Maybe you're not getting enough power to the motor. I've seen when that happens your motor can actually run hotter...not sure why.

this is crazy talk, its hard to get a good bais of whats going on, cause one person says 35/68 with a stock titan will run a 3S all day and end in the 120's, then you get the next guy whos all pissed off because on 7 cells and stock gearing there having heat issues, i think people are bending the truth a little bit

Not crazy at all...I've seen conflicting info plenty of times in other threads. One person finds a combination of parts that works for them, but someone else trys it and says it doesn't work. Usually boils down to something they're doing wrong like possibly wrong gearing, gear mesh too tight, poor quality batteries or connectors, etc. Eight cells will definitely work with the Titan, but depending on your gearing and where and how often you run it there's no way to say exactly how long the motor will last. I can say it will last quite a bit longer than seven minutes, though. Only way to find out if you don't believe the info is to try it yourself.

Yeah, I did try the Speed Gems last year and I bought a temp gun and tried to get temps down and never could. the brushes wore out in maybe 3-4 runs because it was getting so hot. I went through 2-3 speed gems in a few weeks tried gearingit a bunch of different ways. Bought 2-3 spurs and a bunch of pinions and it would get blazeing hot no matter how i geared it. they where the Speed gem 17 doubles
Also there was no binding in my drivetrain either.
The owner of the hobby shop told me that other people that bought there speed gemas there were haveing the same problems.
Thats why I figured Id ask what other people have liked. Get some better options.
And yeah I see people online saying the love the speed gems motors and get a lot of runs out of them. I dont understand it though because I tried gearing high and low and it got blazing hot no matter what.
I also have heard a lot of people say the SV2 last a while so I may get that.
But id like to get something like a Checkpoint money or something like that.
The team Orion Cobalt 2 motors look nice but i havent seen any 19 turns. All low turns

That's a lot of money especially for an off-road motor.
Personally I would rather use the money and get 3 Venom Fireball 19T Double Motors. At $17.59 each who cares if they are not the best.

I had a Venom and it out lasted my speed gems. They are pretty good for the price.

I think it just a waste of money trying to get a brushed motor to run off road not to mention that one run through a sand pit and it over. I think I'm just going to order a sidewinder esc and brushless and be done with it. In the long run it will be cheaper.

Ive had the mamba 5700 for a while and like it a lot but recently broke my ESC, I do plan on getting another mamba. But until I go lipo I think im going to run brushed motors.
My mamba 5700 is killing my batteries.

Why not try one of the Trinity Monster Max motors 550? They are also big can motors like the Titan, and you get a choice of turns (19, 17, and I think 15).

Got it. I'm running brushless in my MF now. Have not tried brushed on it yet. Tried the new Associated 19T Challenger in my son's Stampede at the suggestion of the LHS, but that was a huge mistake. Not sure how it would do in the XXXT, but would hope it was significantly better there.

What happened to the challenger? To slow or did it burn out quick?

The challenger ran smoking hot. I pulled it out after just one run so I wouldn't waste it. Dropped the old Titan back in. That motor has lasted over a year so far. I know it has lost some of its punch, enough that I still want to replace it. I was looking for a moderate, but reliable replacement that would work with the existing ESC. (This is in my Son's Stampede.) Trinity suggested their Monster Max motors. I am considering their 17T version.
