ORIGINAL: Nik.
60% tin and 40% lead solder.
Be sure to get a chisel tip for your iron.
weller pencil irons are not really that expensive, look at Hakko soldering stations (but they are NICE!!!)

It will just have whatever tip it comes with.

RE: MM esc + Vxl motor question thread.
I have no idea, all I know is that Deans solder w/pro flux is great, if not, it's suggested to use 60/40, I have never personally used 40/60, but I can't imagine it would be that bad.

RE: MM esc + Vxl motor question thread.
I wouldn't use 40/60 solder, 60/40 is what you need or better. I use 63/37 from Radio Shack (63% tin). I have the MM and the Velineon in an E savage running on 12c nimh, plenty fast enough just have to be easy on the throttle or it wheelies/flips over all the time. Great setup... I also used the CC 4mm connectors from Tower, the wires to the motor can go to any just switch 2 if it runs backwards...

That might have been the problem.
I just tried to solder and I couldn't get a good solder. It might be because I have the wrong solder. That, or because I'm using a 30 watt iron. Can you please give me a link to some GOOD tower solder thats the right stuff?

RE: MM esc + Vxl motor question thread.
Looks like I got everything in control.
I have:
Deans
Shrink wrap
60/40 solder (will be getting at Radioshack soon)
60 watt iron (in the mail)
MM esc (in shipping dept. [what b-p-p says])
I got the bullet plugs in the mail
I did pretty well, I think.

Just solder on the 4mm males onto the VXL. That is ALL you need to do! Just plug them into the esc females, and if it goes in reverse just keep plugging 'till it goes forward.

So do we all agree that the white wire goes in the middle? And the other two (yellow and blue) can be switched?

The rule is supposed to be, if your motor running backward, reverse "any two" wires and it will run the right way. But yeah, I would put the white with the white. (Just because I'm anal retentive like that)
I did not know that unsensored brushless had the 3rd wire in the first place, since I read in my manual that the third wire was the sensor.

wire color doesn't matter at all, connect them however you want

Most sensored motors ive seen have a plug in the end for the sensor wires.
You can see it on the back of this 1

What I want to know is, why do you need a ground wire? There's absolutely nothing that you can ground to in a plastic bodied r/c car, do you ground it to the ESC (obviously since that's where the third wire goes)? Well, what's the negative for then? In real cars, the ground IS the negative (I've done a few audio installs).
Got a pic of the plug?

The pic shows a question mark? I don't even see that, lol. I thought at least I would see a link if not a picture, or maybe a red "x".

RE: MM esc + Vxl motor question thread.
For sensorless the order means nothing. For a sensored motor it can be an issue and you need to coordinate your grounds between the ESC and motor and some of them won't even let you move the color-coded wires around. But sensorless it is always okay, no need to worry.

Maybe this 1 works.
If it does you can see at the end theres a slot for a plug sticking out that for the sensor wires.

RE: MM esc + Vxl motor question thread.
Yes, that works. I know, my vxl esc has one just like it. Sensor cables.
I was looking at the .062 wire but I thought that the .032 might be better for smaller soldering too.
