RE: Lee's Tamiya DF-01 build thread
Oh man, couldn't believe I went through 2 years of posts...
Right now I have a Sport Tune motor on the fully stock DF01. My question is, do you guys have any experience with the stock car handling brushless power? There is a spare 13.5T brushless system lying around, so that could be in the car next.
Do I need alloy motor mount and center drive shaft?
Can the out-drive/planetary gear take the extra power?
Well, I was handed the new-in-box original DF01 Blazing Star buggy a few years back, as a kick-start to some real RC'ing. Built it, ran it (punishing track), broke it, went into 2WD stadium truck, 1/8 gas buggy, and now a SC10.
Recently we began building another 1/10 electric off-road track to cater to all car types, and this DF01 is again seeing some lights of day. Realised I've only broken the rear motor case and motor mount the last time, so new case and mount are on the way as we speak. (Managed to temporarily frankenstein'ed the damages and tested the car today...)
But broke the front motor case today too, when the shock tower ripped a chunk of it off while testing a jump. Ok, new front case and full bearing set ordered, from Stella. [8D]

if you check out the whole thread (tiresome i know) there are a few video's of it running a Mamba Sidewinder 4600 brushless system, the stock driveshaft copes well (it looks more flimsy than it actually is!)

RE: Lee's Tamiya DF-01 build thread
Thank you all for the replies. So the 13.5T it is then.
I just want to be sure I wouldn't need to come home every weekend and purchase something to replace what broke during the day's run.
I've bought parts off jr-rc and RCmart, now trying out Stella. Any other recommended sites to find parts for vintage like these? I have a old Tamiya Group C direct-drive on-road too.

How similarare the DF-01 an the DF-03? Wondering if the datsun body of the DF-03 will fit the DF-01?

RE: Lee's Tamiya DF-01 build thread
Yeah I had the same problem with mine. Never really figured out waht it was. I took it apart and check the gears many times but nothing really ever seemed worn out.

RE: Lee's Tamiya DF-01 build thread
I think I replaced the gears initially but it eventually started making that grinding noise again. So I ended up playing around with the suspension and turning it into a crawler...
