Default Lee's Tamiya DF-01 build thread

from what i can gather this is pretty much a TA-02, the same chassis that my Ford F-150 is on, but with a much nicer shell, and unlike my 'crawler' F-150, this thing is going to have brushless power! yep, a Mamba Sidewinder 5700kv system!

Nice! Wouldn't mind seeing a side by side comparison when you start building it, compare to your F-150!!

Looking forward to the build!!

the colour will be metallic blue, and to avoid any unsightly holes in the body, all the snorkel and light bar bits will be attached, still need to get some scale looking wheels for it though..

group shot of the parts... new grease tube design and blue damper oil (medium weight).. i forgot that i will need some TS metalic blue paint to paint the orange parts, doh!

i will see how the white wheels look, if they look out of place with the blue body then i have some silver wheels to try..

spotted a couple of differences between this and the TA-02 Ford F-150, firstly no rear ball diff in this, its all bevel gears... and also the 'old skool' red parts are gone..

since i'm running a high power system, i wanted full ball diffs, and i only had one .. so i'm running the TA-03 TRF one-way in the front and standard ball diff in the rear..

the mighty 5700..!!

rear gearbox..

in typical Lee style i did not have enough small bearings... so its hold hold for a bit..

and some shop on ebay is selling the metal motor mount for £50 (100$!!) [:'(]

on road and off road really...

How are the ground clearance compared between the 2? (vs. your F-150) Just curious..

identical, although i put longer ends on the F-150 shocks and the rims dont hit the body anymore, plus i haven't fettled with the inside of the shocks yet, so changing the bump stop for a smaller one may increase ride height further.

managed to kill another pinion today! rounded the grub screw off.. currently running 17t pinion, range is 16t-21t.

Speed Tune gearset, eh?! Wouldn't that be gearing it too high since you are going to put higher speed motor in it?! [X(]

The MM probably has enough torque to pull it, though.. ha!!

Huh, that's odd didnt know that. I always thought the DF-01 was a buggy but I suppose it was a touring car.
I had a DF-02 and DF-03 together last year, but I sold them earlier this year to get a 501x "WCE".
Kinda hard to figure out the way Tamiya lists thier Rc's.
