that rig is SLOW SLOW SLOW

very capable for crawling, but if you plan on bashing at all I wouldn't even bother with it

I agree, from what I have seen the gearbox gears the motor down too much for it to be fast even with a modest motor
I just picked up a wheely king 4x4 for the same purpose and find it great, of course it will need some modding as may the ax-10
What I like about it is is it reasonably fast while having lots of torque on just a 27t motor (I suggest switching the stock one)
Another advantage is its about $100 cheaper and the one without electronics if you have your own or would like to use sumthing better then included as I got is only $135

well this would require hardly any modification compaired to the wheelie king.

i wil be running these tires for the mud, and the stock ones for every were else

People make mud trucks out of them all the time. They can easily be made to go fast.

StampedeKiller, get yourself either a nice 19 turn, 23 turn, 27 turn, or 35 turn motor if you plan on mudding with this truck. My recommendation would be a 27 turn motor, and put some high voltage to it (8 cell Sub-C pack, like an 8 cell Ener-G 4600). Mess with the pinion size until you are still getting really good torque but alot of wheel speed. It will be a very zippy little truck, and will be a great mudder. And be sure you lock the front diff too, as it comes with the front diff open.

I have never heard of a mud truck before. Sounds like your blazing new ground Killa[8D] I am buying a AZ10 for rock crawling but if i feel like getting it dirty I will take it in the mud sometime. Not that we have much rain in CA or AZ.

Some VERY VERY VERY thick grease. Only problem with this is that over time(and not that much time at that) the grease will collect behind and next to the spider gears, resulting in performance as though you had nothing in the diff. And, over time grease breaks down and my not be as thick, and being a mud truck, water will probably work its way into the axle, mix with the grease, and then you have yourself a mess. You are much better off just locking the diff for full time traction, which you will come to find that you really need when mudding. And even if you dont want that big of a battery, I highly recommend it. An 8 cell pack with a 27 turn motor will give you more than enough torque and lots of wheel speed to get out of the mud.

just go lipo

the battery placement on that truck is very high, and with 8 nimh cells it'll be very tippy with that much weight placed up so high in the chassis

i cant see it being fast, because you cant race up rocks at any kind of speed

Mount the batts like most comp crawlers do. Under that battery tray, or on the axles.

under the battery tray is where the ESC and receiver are,

he can mount the bats over the axle, but that requires some fabrication or buying the bracket from axial

I'm confused. Is this truck going to be a rock racer or an all-purpose off-road truck?
