Is the Diff in the Desert Truck sealed like the Firestorm?

I would go with a Firestorm Flux but
1. It has a rebagded Sidewinder so I couldn't run a 3 cell Li-Po.
2. I don't have an extra $100 since I have to get a new charger
3. I want a Mamba Max so I can later on use the ESC in a Revo conversion

I'm 99% sure that I'm going to get a Firestorm. The thing I really like about the DT is the eletronics...

The DT has alot of aftermarket support!!! It uses most of the parts from the xxx-t and that is really popular. When you search ebay, only about 7 itmes pop up, but when you search xxx t, 88 items pop up. Losi has better aftermarket support than HPI IMO. The transmission doesn't have to be all metal to be good. There is also a smoothness factor which many people overlook. The Losi has a Spider Gear diff that is sealed.

I'm going to get rid of my Rustler as a roller and then work for my dad a few more days and then I'll be able to order it. Has anyone used Towerhobbies Easy Pay option. That would be easier for me since I'm only 14 and don't have a real job. As for the Tranny not having to be all metal to be good that's true but I'd rather be safe then sorry.

metal transmisions are getting overrated. Everyone thinks that if your tranny is metal it is BL ready and if it is plastic the transmission is horrible. Thats not entirely true. I mean if you maintain the plastic gears they are just as good as metal. And where did the diff smoothness go???? I mean on my xxx-nt, it is almost the same tranny as my xxx-t, and I go 45MPH without any tranny problems and the gears are plastic. It is all about how you maintain you diff as if you maintain it well it will last a long time and be super smooth and durable.

I'd rather have a slightly less smooth metal tranny than a smoother plastic one.

but what I'm trying to say is that plastic can be just as good as steel if you maintain it. And plus steel gears aren't that much.

I'd rather get a metal one and not have to do as much matenince to keep it running good. I'm set on the E-Firestorm. The only thing that the DT has is the tires, and electronics.

you don't have $100, but later you'll spend $180 to get the same thing

the flux can run on 3s, check the specs...

for later on with the revo conversion, a MMM esc is only about $10 more than the MM (after you buy the ubec) and includes the fan on it already. If you don't already have a MM, buying one for a revo conversion is silly

I love my DT. I drove a E-firestorm at the shop and it was cool, it just felt weak.

Well considering the DT has a gear diff, so much for that Losi diff smoothness huh. But The DT is a nice truck and I thouroughly enjoy the one I have. Id definatly recommend it, but you cant go wrong either way.

you can turn a plastic tranny to metal for $7, on a good RC it's not even needed for the trans to be all metal

Just an FYI you cant turn the DT transmission all metal, the middle gear is plastic and I have not been able to locate a metal version.

Not that it matters alot since they are cheap if you do by some way break a gear. $3.50 for 2 gears. I just had to run the slipper more loose than I normally would like and its been fine since.

have you heard of anyone stripping that gear? or have you stripped them yourself?

My friend had a XXX-T with a 13T motor and he was stripping idlers all the time. He tried everything loose slipper, boiling them and they still stripped.

I'm with Frozen on this one. I have stripped so many plastic gears and with todays brushless systems delivering as much power if not more then nitro's it's time the industry steps up to all metal trany's.

I hate plastic gears and metal gets pretty smooth once its wears in too.

ludeman, what trucks have you had? A good transmission doesn't need metal gears to not strip.

And I seen you live in Desert Hot Springs, CA. I live in La Quinta, CA.
