First time rc driver Slash upgrade questions
What's up I'm 19 from RI and just bought my first RC car the Traxxas slash from Brands Hobby in North Providence. I have a few questions about what I can do to hop up my car next.
1. For driving around the streets does anyone know of a good shock insert setup or should i just try to make it as low as possible?
2. What kind of tire and wheel options do I have? racing slicks? sand paddles? mud tires?
3. Is the traxxas vxl a good brushless system? or should I save up for something like a Novak?
4. what nimh battery pack is best suited to power a brushless system for this?
p.s. the slash is a sick short course truck

3. The VXL is a great system but I would recommend you get a Mamba Max.
4. The Ener-G 4600 is the best Ni-Mh battery out right now.

2. you can use most any 2.2" tire. that includes, bowties, paddles, slicks, road tires, all sorts of off road tires.

RE: First time rc driver Slash upgrade questions
I have been running my slash for about a week now, still completly stock. I have a vxl brushless that will go in it ,but for now I am using a 3s 3300 lipo in it and it has been going strong for better than a week now driving at least once or twice a day. this is not recommended as the stock brushed 12 turn and xl-5 speed control are only rated for 9.6 volts max, but it is working and I am going to run it like this until somthing goes, since it hauls now. I am surprised really that it has ran so long, it just wont die. also I do keep a eye on motor and speed control temps, and never let it run too long so as not to run my lipo down past 3 volts per cell. all the temps of my lipo, motor and speed control have been well within their limits though so again I have been surprised.

I would go with a Mamba Max system as the VXL ESC is not really adjustable at all, and the VXL motor is nothing more than a rebadged Fieago. The VXL motor allows you to gear a bit higher, but it still always runs hot.

RE: First time rc driver Slash upgrade questions
Here's my setup:
Track: Tight and low grip (very loose dirt and small rocks)
Front:
-50 wt oil (Alum Shock Caps!!!)...............DON'T go higher than 50wt with stock shocks!!!
-2 hole pistons
-inside hole on arm.
-small pre-load clips
-1.5 deg negative camber
Rear:
-50 wt oil (Alum Shock Caps!!)
-2 hole pistons
-stock arm mount
-1 large, 1 med, pre-load clip
-2.5 deg negative camber
-Stock motor/Tazer 15T ESC
-Intellect 4000 2S Lipo
-86t spur gear/ 18 pinion
Motor temps at no time were above 155 degrees, ESC was changed due to LVC issues with stock ESC.
Jumps are 2 1/2ft high so truck jumped 5-6ft high with great landings, not much body slap at all. Traction was good with good throttle control. This weekend I am going to experiment with 23t pinion and 16t pinion, stock spur. I will post results and conclusions.
Suspension conclusions: Perfect setup for the track conditions, if you jump mostly rear first or higher than 6ft; this setup will work for you.
Not an expert, just my two cents......
