Definitely not excessive on 4s. It's what Ryan Maifield used at the JConcepts Clash about a month ago...beat his best nitro lap by a full second. The 2650 IMO is too much...at least for the local bash sites.

What gearing is being used for running at the track in 1/8 conversions with the 2200?

i just ran my converted 8ight with the 2200kv setup and a zippy 5s, 4000mah battery and a 15 tooth pinion from losi... WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I pulled the front wheels off the ground and held a wheelie with only a 5,7,3 setup in the diffs.... WOW

insanely fast. ill have to take it to the track for proper testing of heat, but around a parking lot, it was barely warm to the touch (the motor). ill have to get a 4s setup to control the power and maybe shave weight.

I'm glad Joe reads this forum! I am setting up a 8ight buggy with the MM 2200kv combo on 5S with 45/15 gear ratio. I want to program the ESC to limit power delivery to make the car more controllable. I don't quite understand the punch control in Castle Link. Should the percentage be high for more limiting and less for less limiting or the other way round? How can I program the ESC via CL to limit power delivery a bit?
I have the Castle blower motor-fan. Should I install it or wouldn't it be neccesary for a 2200kv setup in a buggy?

for a buggy conversion 2650 is better with 4s lipo. (<3kg car)
for a truggy conversion like mine, 2650 will overheat , 5 or 6s and 2200 is excellent .(>4kg car)

I actually knew that, but I have the 2200kv combo and I have 5S packs. I am not going to buy the other set-up now. I have'n run it yet on track, my concern is, would it be controllable and if not, how can I program via Castle Link to limit power delivery?

Yes it would be controllable and more efficient and more fun, only a little heavier.
I have the same setup on my truggy and no problem yet.
