I am sure you have already found out by now, but any brushed type speed control will "work" with any brushed motor. The Reedy Modified motors are the right physical size for the B3. What you are responsible for is making sure the motor turns are not too low in number for the controller. I am not familiar with the Explorer Sport, but it sounds like the type that can only handle mildly modified motors. I would suggest you get a really good brand (Novak, Tekin, LRP) ESC with no motor turn limit for 6-8 cells. Then you can slap any 540 size motor into your killer B3! You don't want to be stuck with a speed control that can't handle the hotter motors. Whatever you do, DON'T OVER-GEAR YOUR CAR!!! It will go really fast for a couple of minutes, then bad things start to happen, melted endbells, fried armatures, molten solder, etc.

the explorer sport is a Novak, however, the manual states for stock and mild modified - 15 turn on 6 cells. what are the turns on the reedy motor?
