problems with slash with velineon brushless
I have a slash that has the velineon brushless conversion. I cant get the motor to quit cogging. Can a brushless motor go bad? It had the 22 tooth pinion with a 90tooth spur. I tried putting a 17tooth pinion on it but that only helped a little. I pretty much have to push the truck to get it going. It does this with my venom 4200 6 cell pack which is a known good pack. I have a 3 cell lipo that I tried on it which it still cogged for a second or two at 11.1 volts. I had a rustler vxl and never had these problems. Any suggestions?

cogging is normal for brushless sensorless...so, just hit hard the gas...

Cogging occurs when you are using the incorrect gearing and is not a normal thing that happens with sensorless setups.
Try dropping down to a 16t or 15t pinion and you shouldn't have any more cogging problems.

I just charged up a new 7 cell venom 4200 pack and went to the 17tooth pinion and it works alot better now, not nearly as fast as the rusler vxl I had though.

I have noticed the same with stock pinion and vxl, its performance is not very impressive. I liked the rustler vxl much better than slash vxl for performance and slash for scale look. So i bought a rustler vxl and slash stock yesterday, planning on keeping the slash stock.
Thanks

My guess is because your trying to use venom on a brushless system.. Venoms are not proven batteries. LOL

I run Venom 3300's on a Mamba Max 5700 and Mamba Max 4600 setups in my kids' Pedes without any problems.

I have the slash with Velineon running 23/86 gearing and never ever had the slighest problme with cogging. I use 2s batteries and it runs beautifully. As t9dragon said play with the geering more.

Uh, I run 29/76 gearing in mine, and don't have any more cogging than I would expect.
90% sure it's the batteries or motor itself. Or it's just you being a worry wart, as has been mentioned all sensorless motors will cog a bit.

About 20mph on the top end It's speed run gearing, if you try to run the truck as a basher with that gearing you will fry something. However, I still don't have a problem with cogging so that points to it being something else on his truck.

I have that system too but when ever i turn mine on everything works well but the throttle. In fact i have no throttle. my esc just sits there staying green. I am running lipo and i do have it on lipo cut off. Does anyone know what is wrong?
