Stock Rustler + Venom 15d = Smoke
I've had no trouble out of the Titan 12, but thought I should have a 'better' motor. Asked lhs for a recommendation, came home with a Venom Fireball modified 15d. Installed, standard gearing (90/23) & tires, xl-5 esc, 8.4v 4700 batt. Soldered the leads on proper, installed & adjusted mesh. Two minutes of "yeah, that's what I'm talking about!" And then, smoke. Melted both wires off the tabs. Where did I go wrong?

You also got to realize that Venom motors are very cheap quality. They dont last very long. If you want a longer lasting motor get the Orion sv2 15t BB.

Way over geared + cheap motor = poof!
A 15 turn 540 size motor needs to be geared pretty low to keep from over heating. At least 15/87 for a Rustler, but probably lower if you're bashing hard or running off road.
A much better motor, such as a Checkpoint Money, or Orion SV2, will get you much more low end power, and should be just as fast, if not faster than the cheap Venom motor when its properly geared.
