I agree, He is running a VXL motor witch cannot be geared up at all without over heating. I am running a Medusa motor and 21/54 gearing and I have RADARED my slash at 48mph on a 3s... Theres no way your getting 50 like that without over-heating.
Don't see why its so unbelievable, He's not running that on a 6 cell pack and getting 50, no but a VXL motor can run 50 pretty easy without overheating. Mine gets to around 175° when I run my 8 cell EnerG pack in my Rustler. And that's with it geared to run 56mph, could be faster, I have the rollout adjustment on my DX3S set at the closest one below the actual rollout.

I would like to see a Slash doing 50mph using a VXL motor with some sort proof. There is no way of doing that without it overheating..
You just said your Rustler witch is alot smaller then a Slash gets a Motor to 175 while running 8cells geared for 56mph.. 175 is to hot for a motor IMO, All my motors are geared so they run at tops 140ish..

grif... skip the ball diff, and the aluminum chassis. slash could use new shocks and motor/esc. Spend on performance over looks
ok..well i got the Velineon Brushless upgrade so I was looking for things to compliment this high performance motor? Probably getting some new batteries soon. Im running on Traxxas 8.4 3000.

Lets get this thread alive again. I was extremely excited when I first saw it and would love the info to keep pumping in. And if anyone could answer my question as to what modifications would work well with my Velineon brushless that would be awsome!!

The RPM guard/bumper mount is great also . Solves that issue that EVERYONE has with these trucks. If you have a slash, you know what I mean.

I know Lipo batteries are the best and most expensive I think, but what makes them so good. Do they give you much higher performance and last longer? What is a good company for these? And will they work well with the Velineon brushless? TY fusebmx

That is another issue but is not related to the rear at all so I don't know why you quoted me .
But to fix the steering popping loose get the RPM front skids. They are so solid I can't even describe them. Plus they are all enclosed.

Lipo batteries will not only give you better power, but they are lighter, last longer on a charge, and the biggest thing is that they last years if you treat them right. They have high discharges so they are the perfect match for our high demand brushless systems.

Regarding Lipos, Ive also heard a key is to not use them until car dies. I hear that is one of the biggest ways to mess them up. I think I am going to invest in one of those Venom 5000 packs?

You will want a lipo cutoff. Once you have that then you can drive it until the truck stops. But yes without one you will ruin the pack. Don't buy venoms or maxamps.

Has anyone tried putting a on-board temp gauge thats normally made for nitro engines? I put one on my motor today and will see what happens. I dont think there will be some current or electrical problem by wrapping the gauge sensor around the motor, right?

Thats not a bad idea. I keep hearing these engines can fry pretty easily. If I get Lipo I want to look into the auto shut off switch so I dont kill the pack. Any sites to purchase this or is it a DIY

Well I ran 44 mph today with 14/86 gearing on 3s lipo. The engine temps were getting up to 160 degrees though. Castles web site says nothing over 200 degrees, so according to them I am safe.

That would have zero benefits over the standard temp gauge you carry with you. If you could find a way to make it visible on your remote, that would work well. A digital screan would be needed though.

It's called a Novak smart top, and it's a drop in. You will be running a brushless system (such as the vxl) that has one built in. The vxl motors are not known for frying. They actually are known for staying quite cool, so you should have no problems.

Ive been researching a Lipo pack and charge for my Slash Velineon. Can anyone give me ideas as to the right pack, company, and charger to run on my Velineon...And get the most bang for the buck? These Lipos are quite an investment so I want to be sure I get the right thing.

Ok fellows. Do to some high temps running the Slash with the MM 5700kv and 3s lipo, Ijust ordered and Tamiya heat sink for 540/550 sized motors and a Novak cooling fan to install on top of the heat sink.

I will update you guys with how it goes and how much cooler it runs.

Another brushelss system you guys could look into is the Novak Hovoc. I have the 8.5 (5000kv) in my Pede And it runs great. Got mine out the door for $140. Check out hobbycity for lipos, the rhino 3700 2s 20c packs run about $30 there and they are great. the are about as long as a 7 cell side by side.

Ok fellows. Iput the heat sink and the cooling fan on the motor and temps are 20-25 degrees cooler. I was getting up 160 degrees on the MM 5700 running 3s lipo without the cooling stuff but now I am at a safe temp. I think its well worth the money. I am using a seperate 6.0v 5 cell hump pack to power the fan. Here is where Igot them from:

Here are some pics of the install.

Iam pretty stoked. Today I ran 50mph with 3s and thats with 14/86 gearing. I want to try a 18t pinion. I should be able to hit 55mph, if it doesnt get airborn.

Slash:

-Mamba 4600KV
-16/90 (Still runs pretty hot!)
-45W shock fluid all around with Big Bore Shocks.
-RPM Front/Rear Shock towers
-RPM Front Skid Plate(This prevents the steering posts from poping out of the two holes on the bottom of the chassis)
