Default Brushless ???

I have a Traxxas Slash, and a Traxxas Stampede, and was wondering if there was a way to make the Slash brushless by using an RC aiplane AXI motor and ESC? I dont want to spend over $200 making it brushless, and i have a few extra airplane motors lying around that I could use. Thanks for the Help!

Plane motors were designed to run at full throttle, or almost full throttle throughout the battery pack. In cars, you rarely get to top speed. IMO I wouldnt even try it, you can get a Novak Havoc or Castle Sidewinder for $150 and that would be much better.

Having come from airplanes, I know what you're talking about.

The AXI motors are nearly all outrunners. Do you have one with the right kv and power level? AXI outrunners usually aren't geared down, they're usually run direct. That is one of the outrunner advantages in planes: no gearbox needed, less parts to fail, lighter weight. Car & truck motors are always geared down, hence the high kv. (RPM per volt of input)

You also have to consider the mounting hole spacing. There are usually two different options on the outrunners I had.

A suitable airplane motor for a car would be one that was designed to run with a gearbox or to be run with a ducted fan or pusher jet.

What motors do you have sitting around? Anything higher than 2000 kv and 100 W?
