Tamiya Buggy Champ 2009 Resource Thread!

RE: Tamiya Buggy Champ 2009 Resource Thread!
Oh, cool. The Buggy Champ was the RC that moved my interest from Toy-grade RC to Hobby-grade RC when I was a kid. I almost bought one, but ended up getting the Super Champ instead (can't remember why I made that choice). Always wished I would have picked up one of the Buggy Champs though. Looks like I'll get my chance now.

How did you like the Wild one? I had a Fast attack many many years ago and from what I remember they're pretty much the same car aren't they? I've been watching Ebay for a Wild one but the Prices have been higher than I want to spend. I'm just hoping Tamiya gets around to re- releasing it.

Asking price is $308 USD right now.
I think it will go lower when it is finally released....

I'm looking forward to spinning some Sand Blaster 915's again, that's for sure!
Wonder if the re-re will have the white letter Sand Blasters like in the pictures, or if they'll be all black like the ones in the BRAT kit?

Mechanized,
the Sand blasters always came black. You have to do the lettering yourself.
There are new pictures available from the japanese fair. Very sadly, no SAND BLASTER JR writing on the front tires!!!
I wonder if its still written on the rears.

I see that they put some plastic inserts to hold the front steering knuckles.. so no metal to metal wear.. probably a good idea!! (can easily replace those inserts)
I'd put the Hornet spike tires on it, ha!!

LB, thats not a change, those plastic inserts were always there.
But they improved/beefed up other things. The most obvious is larger diameter oil shocks with thicker piston rods. They did the same as with the Frog shocks. Similar looks to the original but modern internals.
The hornet Spikes won't fit the rear rims (larger diameter), got to use the smaller Hornet/Grasshopper rims.

Ah, I thought the old one was metal to metal.. ha! Since I never owned one, show you what I know.. Thanks for the info!
The rear rims -> they are the Brat rims / wheels, right?!
Yeah, I meant changing out the wheels and tires together.. to the Hornet / Frog setup.. like the Super Champ.. !

No worries!
Rear rims are the same dimensions as the Brat ones, with a different design (5 star rim). The wheels are unique to the Rough Rider (Buggy Champ).
Personally, I prefer the look of the larger 1.75" rims over the Hornet/Grasshopper/SuperChamp/Sand Scorcher wheels.
I'm pretty sure we will see the Super Champ re-re sooner or later.

I wonder if the re-re Super Champ (if they decide to make that happen!) would have the weird rear suspension or not!! (single shock) That would be cool!!

The most important thing about the re re is the shocks. Those should also fit the bruiser/hilux/blazer/mountaineer. The suspension might actually work. [X(]

friend from work bought a box of parts and other junk and part of it was this car that the thread is about. it doesnt have a body only had the chassis two servos motor manual speed controller system. the radio was an old 72 mhz ground radio(which is older than 1988 since 72 cant be used anymore). right now i am just playing around with it. took it apart to clean it. kind of neat to see they are in re-release.

This is too cool. It is nice to see they are releasing some of the older style buggies. I hope things like the super champ will follow. Feel sorry for the guys that have spend a lot on the originals, but I am glad others will be able to obtain these as well. I'm subscribed to this one!

I can’t wait to get one...well, two probably. After all, I am apparently unable to buy just one of any Tamiya re-release.
Any thread I have ever read (not necessarily on RCU) about the possibility of Tamiya re-releasing any of the very early metal part cars goes something like: “no way they will ever, ever re-re them.....the tooling, molds are gone forever...the metals are way too expensive...” blah, blah, blah. Well, so much for all of those arguments.
I wonder what else Tamiya has in store for us??

Of course it would..I mean if they did re-re it. A Super Champ without that rear suspension just wouldn't be a Super Champ now would it?!

More pics... (saw it online.. they can be found here.. http://www.geocities.jp/hobby_show_a...2009/index.htm)
So with the re-re of the this buggy, does it mean that Tamiya will be making the rubber cover for the RXswitch again?!So now we can get those for our Wild Willy 1?! ha!
