Default Losi 1/18th desert truck

I just got my son a lost mini desert truck and after 4 packs the motor burned up. The steering works but the motor will not go and when I throttle it the red light comes on. I plugged a different brushed motor into it and it ran. Are the stock motors just garbage?????? Or do I have a problem I should take up with the retailer???? I ask here because I'm not a car guy, I'm a electric plane guy, so any help is appreciated.

was it broken in properly?  brushed motors require a bit more maintenance than brushless.

Are you sure the motor burned up and it's not an ESC programming issue? Read the manual and check what the red light means.

I've had the same problem now with 2 brushed motors in my rustler.  Just yesterday burned up another stock motor.  I think if you plugged in another motor and it worked it wouldnt be a program problem.  Hows your gearing?  Maybe running to high of temps?

If it was an airplane motor that went bad what would you do? If you had ran only 4 packs thru it and it went bad then take back?

these stock motors tend to burn up faster. I would say just buy a better motor and it will last.  brushed motors are pretty cheap these days.

or you can ask Losi and they should send you a free one but it might happen again, it is not worth it.

You can get a Venon Fireball 370 for about $10 and get great performance.

I have heard a lot of stories about the motors burning up quickly. I would give contacting Losi a shot... if they say no, then I would say invest in a better motor/maybe look at brushless (sure its not cheap but wow its almost no work [X(]). Hope you can get the car up and running soon
