Use the e-maxx motor if you want the 550 size. If you want a 540 size then use anything over 20 turns. OR gear down.

Ditto, but if you go with a 550, get something other than Traxxas' motors. Trinity's got a better quality 550 Monster Maxx.

I thought the Titan 12t is a 550 size motor?

well I feel your pain, as I have burned up at least 8 motors in my slash...I had plenty brushed motors laying around to go through anyway though, and didn't have the cash at the moment to go brushless. The only brushed motor I can see holding up long term in the slash is something like a 550 can motor I like the electrifly s-600 it lasted about the longest and had incredible speed on a 8 cell energ pack.
With other 27 and 19 turn motors, I kept gearing down and down from stock gearing trying to get a motor to last. Some days I have burnt 3 motors in a day haha. Right now the truck has a 27 turn cobalt in it. I know this is a fairly hot running higher rpm motor but I've got it geared with a 14 tooth pinion and still hitting 250 degrees! But of course I run in leaves, tall grass, climb hills etc etc.
