Bought MAMBA MONSTER need lipos
Hello again everyone! I forked out the cash for the Castle Creations Mamba Monster setup 2200kv, and now I need a decent set of lipos. The guy from Castle suggests buying two 3s 5000mah 30c 11.1v lipos. I can't afford what some people are selling them for! Any idea or links to where I can find a set for cheaper? Thanks guys.

Turnigy/Zippy LiPo's are probably the best bang for you buck when it comes to LiPo's. However, if you are willing to shell out some serious cash, get an Enerland pack, those are top of the line, they use the best cells in the business. www.rc-monster.com < be sure to check out their forum for brushless specific help. RCU is great for info, but RCM is basically a "brushless only" forum.

Make sure you get some ring and pinion gears for the E-maxx. You will go through them like crazy. Try some Robinson Racing ones.

And I agree about Hobbycity.com Lipos. Best lipos for the money, period!

They are wrong, Turnigy/Zippy LiPo's from HobbyCity are excellent packs. Go onto the RCM forums and look through some threads, ALOT of people use Zippy/Turnigy packs with excellent results.

RE: Bought MAMBA MONSTER need lipos
Yeah, they're generally going to say that. Anything other than SMC or a pack with Enerland cells in it they will shoot down. Recently many big name Lipo brands have left the best (most expensive) brand name there was, Enerland. Their packs are, imo, outrageously expensive, but they are good. But check on other brushless forums. There are tons of people that run them and the zippy and turnigy cells have proven themselves to be the BEST bang for buck, and they can power 1/8 buggies, truggies, and MTs.
In short, if you MMM smokes and you tell them you're using any cells they don't approve of they're going to try and play it like you don't have a warranty claim on it. Castle is in the game to make money, not lose it on warranty claims. If it were me, I'd run Turnigy Lipo's, which I'm going to do in my RC8 MMM powered buggy project. I don't feel like spending $200+ on a 5s pack again and hear a castle techie say "It's your batteries, they're not good enough." Piss on that.

RE: Bought MAMBA MONSTER need lipos
Not to throw a whole new element into the game here, but you could also consider the route I am going in my E-Maxx I am building. I'm going with A123 batteries. They are much more stable and safe than Lipo, cannot be damaged by running down past a certain voltage, have a much flatter discharge curve, have many more "cycles" in them than Lipo, and best of all can be charged in 15 minutes for BOTH packs. One source I haven't seen mentioned in the car forums yet (I am mostly a plane/heli guy) is radicalrc.com. They sell A123 packs a LOT cheaper than I have seen anywhere else and sell GOOD stuff. I am going with a 5s2p setup that will cost me about $180. Just a thought to add to your confusion!

the lipos from hobbycity are about 130 for 2 3s 5000mah, so it's still slightly cheaper and for now thats what i need. on castles website they actually have links to buy the a123 packs from tanicpack

RE: Bought MAMBA MONSTER need lipos
the P numbers are how many cells in parallel.. in my case (5s2p) means I will have 5 cells in series (which gives higher voltage) and 2 cells in parallel (which give higher capacity). Basically I am buying 2, 5 cell 2300mah packs and "Y"ing them together to get in effect a 5 cell 4600mah pack.

RE: Bought MAMBA MONSTER need lipos
so you don't buy a 5s2p you create a 5s2p by purchasing two 5s and connecting them in parallel? if that'the case then whenever you see something like 5s2p you know that they are refering to two seperate batteries?

RE: Bought MAMBA MONSTER need lipos
it can be done either way.. I am doing it the way I am because otherwise it would be one very big, very heavy pack to mount on one side of the truck. Most of the time in smaller batteries it would be a single pack.
