I have heard of people running the 35 amp in a slash but I'd at least get the 60amp. also, try to get the half turn motor setup, ie: 13.5 or 10.5, etc. those are true 540 motors, the whole turn motors are actually 380 motors finnned out to a 540 size.

Kistner gives some good advice here. Also if I can add to his advice, don't get the 5.5t motor. Its to much motor for the slash. It will overheat. The 8.5t is a good motor or the 13.5t if you can find one. Don't get caught up in getting the highest KV motor thinking it will be faster/better.

What size is the 3930kv motor? Doesn't sound like the normal 1/10 size KV motors.

No comment on the other advice here because I are dumb.

If you want the huge performance available from brushless systems, get a 60 amp controller and either the 8.5t or 13.5t motor.  If you're just looking for low maintenance and an upgrade from stock brushed power, though, there's nothing wrong with the 35 amp controller and probably the 13t motor.  Remember that your stock ESC is only rated for 14 amps and 9.6 volts; even the 35 amp system is a nice jump.  I'd still get the 60 amp, personally, but if you're on a tight budget or you think a small upgrade isn't going to get you hooked and leave you wishing for more, the 35 amp is worth a look.

The VXL system is rated at 200 amps on the Traxxas website, but I think that's a bit optimistic.  A Castle Mamba Monster isn't even rated for that much unless you add all the phases together.  I've even heard of people struggling with a VXL on a setup a 100-amp Mamba Max didn't have problems with.  I generally assume the VXL is more or less equivalent to the 70-amp Sidewinder; that's conveniently about what we get if we assume Traxxas added the phases together for marketing purposes, and divide the rating by three.

Of course, I don't actually know how these numbers were reached, so this post consitutes an opinion.

avoid the whole turn numbers IE 5,6,7,8 etc. Look for the .5 turn numbers such as 9.5, 13.5 etc.

if that is all the LHS has maybe you should look at an online vendor or ebay. The 60amp with between an 8.5 and 13.5 is what you want. check out swanghobby.com or rcmart.com, they both have a variety of ezrun combos.

you won't have the 9t because if you use it in the slash it will burn up. you been listening to anything anyone's said?

*taps on glass*

GET THE .5 TURN MOTORS OR NOUT.

any sensorless brushless motors, like the castle motors, the vxl. hobbycity has a load of brushless inrunners that would work.

Get the NOVAK Havoc 8.5 for $130 US . Very smooth and manually programable. If you want 3S power the Havoc 3s with a 8.5 ballistic rebuildable motor for about $160.

If you plan to enter any races, get a sensored system like one of the Novak Havoc offerings.

Additionaly, purchase from a company (such as Novak) that offers comprehensive after-purchase, service options and has a wide range of accessories and repair parts available on-line.

It's tempting to buy cheap electronics, but minor user repairs/updates or getting them serviced can be a nightmare.
