Default Sidewinder with Velineon Motor

I have the Sidewinder ESC and i burnt up my 5700 motor in my slash. I was curious if i replace my 5700 motor with the Velineon motor will i be able to run 3s? If you get the Sidewinder with the 4600 you can use 3s but if you have the 5700 you only get 2s. I am assuming you can use 3s with the Velineon motor because it is even lower at 3500.

thanks in advance

And make sure to keep the Velineon motor temps below 200F. That is what the manual states.

I've heard that the VXL isn't as hard to keep temps down. What plugs do i get to match the VXL plugs for the ESC?
Also this battery is like 3mm too wide for the slash, do you think i could get it to squeeze in or maybe i could sand down the sides of the battery bay.

They have a pack that is identical, but is 20c and is just a little bit smaller that would fit almost perfectly. How much of a difference is there between 25c constant and 20c constant when the burst are both 30c.

i run my losi xcelorin 4800kv on a 3s lipo 15/86 with 6 inch tires, and 18/86 with 4.5 inch tires for normal running, both run over 40mph with 30mins of run time on low settings, i dont need to even keep an eye on the esc or motor, the motor never breaks 140f, and the esc is 100f at the max, great system!,

I believe you need to put 4mm bullet connectors on the VXL motor.

yep same here, i said can i plug this motor (vxl) into my sidewinder esc, and run it with NO PROBLEMS every1 is like yeh yeh you can..

anyway

i think these are it- http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXJPY3&P=ML

those are for your esc, if you want to go 4mm plugs, just change ur vxl plugs to castle.

i just went to the lhs and asked for the 3.5mm female. they gave me some.. there really easy to solder

make sure you unsolder the wires and dont cut them
or the motor wont run properly.

The Velineon motor is 3500kV, so it will be torquier than the CS36 motors. It will also generate less heat since it takes less effort to move the truck (more torque) and consumes less current (lower rpms). I prefer to spin a lower kV motor to 30-40k rpm and get more torque that allows me to gear taller for speed if I want to than to spin a higher kV motor to 50k+ rpm.
Regarding bullet connectors, whatever you choose, they should match (same size) between the ESC and motor. While a 3.5mm male will fit inside a 4mm female and stay in place, the lower pressure of the 2 connectors against each other will reduce contact and increase resistance.

personally i wouldnt cut any wires on a brushless setup,
might not harm the esc but i know for a fact cutting the
wires on any brushless motor ruins them.

So i ordered my Velineon motor, i was curious where i should start my gearing. It will be in my slash so around 16/90? I don't want to go above 160 degrees F.
Also does anyone know if Turnigy is a good lipo brand? They are really cheap at hobbyking. Also do you notice much of a difference between 20c and 30c? Both batteries im looking at are 30c burst, but one is 20c and other is 25c constant. It is a 12 dollar difference and the 20c would fit better in my slash.

I would stick with the Zippys, you don't want to be the guinea pig for a new brand no one knows much about. Wasn't there a thread just recently where someone tried another one of the non-zippy's and had a problem?

Okay so any suggested gearing to start around with the new velineon? I'm still using 7-cell nimhs for now. Also can anyone tell me how much of a difference there is between 20c and 25c.

the difference in the c rating usually is in
wich manufacturer is less embelishing the fugures.
some companys say 30c but there not. a 15c burst
batterie will struggle to give you all the punch.
compare that to a true 20/25c batterie it will
blow it out the water torque wise. anything
that has over 100amps of discharge and is true
20/25c is good.

well you must have cut them to the same
length and not very much. im not saying
they dont run but they come out the factory
with pre determined wire lentgh. the esc
works the motors timing off of the resistance
from the motor. obviously cutting the wires
affects this resistance.

if anyone is thinking about cutting there motor
wires do a search and get some info first.

try 19/80 gearing on 7 cell it should not reach over 160..

i can run like 18.86 with pede tires on highest setting for prolly 15 minutes straight around my track and it gets to 150ish after 15 min
