Practiced today. bow ties did not work,
went down 1 tooth as it was peaking out near the 3/4 mark
Goose Bumps worked and will try Suburbs on next time out
tracked straight, bite good, cornered flat, no traction roll.
car is still basically stock/ center diff/ power strokes/ roll bars and goose bumps

A bad day at the track is better than a good day at the office. Sounds like you still had a productive practice.....Ironed out a lot.

Got that right!
Work is way over rated.
I had great day, it was my first day back after 1 1/2 years, First practice it was uncontrollable, and my driving was rusty.
I got it going better but timing for the triples was inconsistant. casea bunch of times : ) It got better after tire swap.
Im hopping the suburbs will hook up. the stock motor is plenty fast for now.. It felt overgeare and would hit top speedas I entered the brakiong zone. droppedon tooth.and it was a lot easier to control everywhere.

I mountedup the Suburbs last night. Will have to make some mods because the bullet connectors are rubbing on the battery bar that holds it down. theconnectors got tweeked and shorted ot the electronics temporarily.

I forgot how enjoyable it is to work on the car. I haven;t raced yet, so maybe that is it.
later days

If anybody's still out there...

I'm very new to R/C trucks.

I've built a 4wd Taxxas Slash from a roller chassis & put in the HobbyWing 1/10 BL & ESC. However, under full acceleration it jerks a couple of times before taking off. If I keep doing that eventually it will run fine. It seems worse w/ 7 cells (3300 & 4200 mAH) than w/ 6 cells (5000mAH). I tried every setting on the ESC (not sure what all of them do yet) & nothing seemed to help. Any ideas? It sure ain't fun running it like this! I have a 13 tooth pinion but it did the same w/ the stock 11 tooth. Thanks.

By the sounds ur batteries can't supply enough amps to the motor under acceleration from a dead stop.
U need to get a lipo the nimh batteries just don't cut it

It's not the batteries it sounds like the motor is cogging, It may not be the correct motor for the Slash 4x4.

phmaximus - thanks! That's odd because I'm using the same batteries that come w/ the Slash kit! 7 cell NiHm 3300 mAH. I also tried a 6 cell 5000 mAH.

FNG rider - thanks! at low speeds under light acceleration, the motor does cog but once I accelerate through that it runs OK. It's just when I accelate at full throttle it jerks (small burst of speed then it slows down), and then repeats 5 to 8 times & then takes off normally.

What I don't understand is why it gets better as the battery wears down a bit. That just doesn't make any sense to me. I would think it would get worse as the battery voltage starts to drop. What do I know! LOL

Your motor is cogging, a skipping or balking that occurs on sensorless brushless motors. Your motor is probably a high speed motor not designed for the heavier SC trucks. You can either gear lower with a smaller pinion or change to a sensosred system with both sensored esc and motor. You should consider a change to a high torque motor which is designed specifically for a Short Course 4x4 truck. For example the Mamba Max Pro SC 3800k sensored or a Tekin 4600k sensored motor and ESC. If you have the stock Brushless motor and speed control, they work fine and are fast.

FNG Rider - thanks for the follow up. The motor I have is an 8.5T 4000kV. I'll try the lower pinion again. Nothing in the ESC programming can help this??

I'm not familiar with your motor, but it is not suitable for a SC truck.

phmaximus - you got me thinking about how the different chemistry packs work. I need to do some research!

I borrowed a 3S & 2S LiPo from my neighbor. The 3S was so "strong", I couldn't accelerate at full speed because the slipper clutch started slipping! But was it FASSSST. Then I tried a 2S & it was fast & absolutely no "jerking" during accelration & it was fast enough to be difficult to control! I just orded a 2S 5700mAH 50C pack! Thanks!

hey guys can you give me some battery suggestions for lipos..

I've only run on the included 7-cell nimh but I'm looking to buy a 2s and 3s lipo with about 5000mah preferably with the Traxxas plug already installed. Any suggestions with links would be great thanks.

I have two bodies, a beater for practicing and and shiney clean one for racing. so far the beater is over 2 1/2 years old, taped shoe gooed and patched. Sooner or later the shiney body will become the beater. and so it goes. have fun with that; )

This body is already my beater we had a session at work that got a little carried away... I destroyed that body, both bumpers, a shock tower, the drive shaft and slipper rod both bent and seized the motor. (Face palm) the motor was able to rebuild the rest was replaced I did all my bearings and some new screws plus a fan for the motor. this truck can take a hell of a beating

went with metallic blue.
just picked up this

its DTXC3164 Onyx 1/10 Scale 3930kV Brushless System version.
also got this

I used popcicle box cut to shape and used gorilla tape to keep the cardboard in shape and in place. I had the problem of rocks getting stuck between the drive shaft and chassis. My car has maybe three runs on it and the shaft is all chewed up.
