RE: Blitz, SC10, Slash, or Strike?
It's all in fun. I gotta say though, I think I get just as much joy out of seeing someone new to the hobby toss down a new truck on a track for the first time as I do turning some laps myself. I really enjoy helping out and lending a hand to the younger generation of R/C enthusiasts at my local track. I know if a few guys hadn't helped me along when I first started out I probably would have left the hobby. It's a really great advantage to have these forums to bounce ideas off one another and share advice and experience. That's the amazing thing about our hobby, no two stories are alike. Whether you race or bash or do a little of both, it's nice to know there are people here on RCU willing to keep things lively and interesting.
Sorry for the rant, so back on topic. I can't wait to see all 4 trucks go head-to-head in box stock form on a well suited track. I'm sure it won't be long before YouTube is full of such videos. So far, at my local track, there are only Slash and SC10 trucks. Hopefully, there will be a few Strike and Blitz trucks suiting up for war soon.

Can't comment on the HPI Blitz yet as it has not been released in Australia.I have a Slash, SC10 and theStrike-all converted to brushless-VXL combos in the Slash and SC10 and EZrun 3000kv/60amp esc in the Strike. For racing my vote would go to the SC10 closely followed by the Strike as they both have similar handling capabilities.Having said that, the Slash gets more use as it is more fun as a basher and all rounder. You can set the Slash up to handle well but it is a great truck out of the box.

ausjethro, your reply seems to be the most reasonable . being you actually have 3 of the models to compare heads up.have you had durability issues with the strike as others have stated?

RE: Blitz, SC10, Slash, or Strike?
Like other have said over and over. This really comes down to which truck you prefer and which truck fits your driving style. At the club level a good driver with a marginal truck will beat a bad driver with the best truck every time. I personally like the way my Stock Slash handles. It's just right for the track that I run on. A couple of weekends ago I had a chance to run with a couple of modded Slash's, brushless SC10's and a Blitz. I will admit that the SC10 and Blitz are very nice capable trucks but I was consistently faster lap after lap. Does this mean the Slash is a better truck?? NO..... It just means it's the best truck for me.
I have only gotten to run an SC10 on the track twice but in that time I learned that it wasn't what I was looking for in a SCT. At some point i'd like to run a few laps with a Blitz and see how that compares to my times in my Slash.
BTW: I Also have a VXL Slash that is much harder to drive consistently. I planned to run it in the mod class but so far it's proving to be a bit much to control. I'm sure it's just a couple adjustments and practice time away from being a winning combo but that's something to think about in the future.
I had plans to get out and practice but unfortunately RC has taken a backseat for the foreseeable future.

RE: Blitz, SC10, Slash, or Strike?
I fitted a castle creations 5700kv motor and esc, changed the diff oil to 7k and put the 2.4 radio gear into my hpi blitz and took it out for some fun today powering it with 2s 25c 5000 lipo packs and 88 spur / 20 pinion combo and found that the temps where good through 4 full packs on the track and bashing the truck.
Motor temps never went over 160f all day
Esc temps never went over 150f all day
Outside temp was 88f with high humidity
So i must say i was happy with the temps and power i was getting with the combo set up and power supply i was running today, the rest was stock out of the box.

Run my Blitz today for the first time with the MM/Velineon combo on 3s, Gladiators on the rear for tracton in short grass. Lots of fun, good handling and speed with plenty of wheelie power if you want it. I'm swapping out the suspension and steering links to get rid of the loose ball cups and installing Emaxx drag links for the camber links and Slash toe links for the steering. The larger captive ball ends are much tighter/stronger than the stock parts...

RE: Blitz, SC10, Slash, or Strike?
If you want to do 50/50 racing and bashing, buy the Slash, if you want to race, buy theSC10 or have a look at the Strike-very similar handling to the SC10-low CG AND 2.4 ghz radio.I have one of each, all brushless-VXL combos in the Slash and SC10 and EZrun 3000kv in theStrike. They are all good in their own right-Manufacturers don't produce products that will fail and cost them market share-competition is too fierce these days!
The Blitz is not available here in Australia yet,but if it is up to the usual HPI standard, it will be a winner. At the end of the day, there is probably no Best SC truck,it is a case of finding the one that meets your requirements and gives you the most enjoyment.

RE: Blitz, SC10, Slash, or Strike?
It's a conspiracy!!!!!11!11!1!!!1!!!!!!
The SC10 and Blitz out of the box have some desighned in flaws that make them a little bit slower than a well setup Slash. I think AE and HPI puposely made the thier trucks a bit slower than the Slash to ensure that clubs will allow them to race. So far it's worked. You can feel right away that they have the potential to eclipse the slash with some tuneing but we're not there yet.
The HPI Blitz has allmost as much rotation/steering as the AE SC10 but it is easier to drive. Seems to jump well. Smooth tranny. A more conservative truck than the SC10. The orange Maxxis tires body looks great. The RTR tires work well.
The SC10 should be able to dive under anything in slow tight corners, if you can keep it from washing out. Lightest truck of the bunch, tends to jump nose high, needs more weight up front or a different setup. Real loose. Gets way better with bowties or Blitz tires. Some say adding diff fluid makes it looser on throttle. I think it'll be easier to control on turn in and in bumpy sections. I'll try 5000 diff fluid soon. The RTR SC10 tires look faster, but they suck.
The Slash once tuned right is very steady through corners but gets killed in whoop sections and jumps, it's too heavy. Still its the fast ticket until the shocks get air in them. 50/40 in the shocks, 3rd hole out on rear arms, 1-1.25 turns out on slipper, 30,000 diff fluid (needs repacked every 3 race days), and battery forward is the hot ticket changes in my area. Heavy gears slow the in air throttle/brake response, slow to adjust nose high/low in the air. Slash tires are still the staple of the class.
I think the Blitz has the best RTR tires. Most tracks allow the Proline bowties but not goosebumps.
My SC10 has diff issues that may require shimming to keep the diff from grenadeing. It's shocks require special care to keep from leaking and special methods to get uniform damping side to side. But because they are air immersion style shocks, when the leak a little the damping will not by ruined as much as the Slashes bladder style shocks. They just get a little softer as they leak where the Slashes damping falls apart hard if air gets in/ oil leaks out. Higher performance suspension will lose an arm every once in a while.
The Slash eats hinge pins and shock shafts, but they are dirt cheap so who cares. Slipper isn't as smooth or as fine tuneable as the Sc10's. I've had better luck with the stock plastic shock caps than the Al ones. They seal better, damage the bladder less, but may pop off on rare huge hits. I just replace them ever once in a while. Needs regular bladder replacement, Nearly everytime you change oil. Screws back out of soft plastic regularly. Otherwise its the best Traxxas product yet (ever?).

+1 all the fast guys at my track run a slash, all the weak and slow guys buy the SC10,
but end up breaking once in each heat. People come and go, the strike was just a faze, people had them
and those same people sold it for a slash.
That's is what happened in my area, other places it may be quite different.

I'm take it as most who bash on the Slash do not like Traxxas!
I still keep seeing Slash trucks win at the track!

I'll give you a +1 if for no other reason than being utterly hilarious and ridiculous.

i also agree, fact is if your breaking things you need to practice more. all the trucks are good and they all have pro's & con's, as for me i have been watching slash races since they came out and i have never liked them, yeah their fun and competative but only when racing against other slash trucks, once you toss a sc10, losi, or hpi in the mix,the slash just is not up to par for all out racing, its durable & fun yes, but can it compete with these race breed sc trucks is the question. i have been around R/C racing long enough to know that with the introduction of these new SCT's that the slash class is going to change to the SC class, and the slash is not going to be able to compete in the very class it started.
if ur old enough you would remember when stadium truck class first started, we all raced the Tamiya HiLux for the most part, and it was a fun class but as soon as the rc10t & jrx-thit the trackit was over! thetop guys running the HiLux just could not compete, in fact they were getting OWNED by the bottomguy who had simply went out and bought ajrx-t or rc10t,and the same is about to happen to the slash!

I remember those days where I lived the class was being dominated by guys that dumped a ton of money into their Blackfoots (or HiLux), but that was their problem forbuilding 500-buck trucks and gettingowned by$150 stockers... butthen again that was the problem with trying to RACE a vehicle that was NOT a race vehicle... and that's happened in every form of RC racing since the dawn of time. It's called survival of the fitest, improving the breed, building a better mouse trap.
It's not like Traxxas has any "real" history in RC car/truck racing, and they openly admit to not being (or intending to be) a company that produces race vehicles - nor do they support any type of racing or any RC race events. They're a basher company and they know it.
The fact that this "Short Course" class has caught on, and maybe should/could superceed the Stadium Truck Class that has morphed into streeline bodies and crazy wheelbases and widths and tire and motor of the month should be good enough in itself so as to return truck racing to actual truck-looking vehicles....

I do not have a SC truck yet but want one. Need to save some cash - I like the looks of the Slash but would want something with lower ground clearance if I were to get one. I can see for bashing might want to have it a bit higher - but this thread seems to have a lot of racers and would think something with a lower CG would perform better on the track. JMHO

Yeah my blitz should be coming in the mail anytime now....Oh and yeah im a speed demon lol, but I will use this to race at my local track.
