New Desert Buggy: Kyosho Ultima DB
Nice looking new buggy from Kyosho, I like the somewhat scale looks. G20 stock motor, Carbon fiber chassis.

RE: New Desert Buggy: Kyosho Ultima DB
I just recently got back into the hobby after 20 years or so, and when I was a kid, RC10s, Ultimas and JRX2s were the top off-road buggies. I have learned in my new adventures that Kyoshho is not as popular as it once was-at least in my area. Are these new ultimas (Rt,Sc, etc) up to par with the Losis and AEs of today? Are these cars that can take a beating and still be running twenty years from now like my Turbo ultima is? I'd love to get a new buggy-and this one looks perfect. Anyone know if it is an RTR or comes as a kit? I enjoy building them, so the lack of kits out there is a real downer for me.

If you're a kit fan, Tamiya still stocks plenty of them. Many are just bashers (not competition racers - although they do that too, selectively).
As for Kyosho, when I was in the hobby as a kid (also 20 yrs ago), they were still harder to find parts...for me at least. Nowadays, at least you can get stuff online. My LHS now still doesn't stock Kyosho parts...but it doesn't stock many AE parts, nor Tamiya, nor much Losi anyhow. Some HPI, mostly Traxxas. Hence, I'm an online shopper.
But I do get the feeling that Kyosho is still high quality nowadays.

the chassis looks like a sc chassis.
the chassis looks like a sc chassis.
I wonder if it would fit a proline body??

I too would prefer a 4wd version, but it still seems fun. Kyosho's 1/10 electric platforms are really under appreciated. They're insanely durable and well designed.

My only thought is Kyosho should have gone with a more narrow front wheel setup, perhaps with ribbed tires and maybe some scorcher type paddles in the rear.

Has anyone hear anything else about this buggy? I've heard some pretty good things about the truck version. I'm really excited for this to come out! Having trouble waiting though...

Here's a video of the buggy. They're expected to arrive in the US in about two weeks.

I'm a huge fan of Kyosho. Unfortunately they make it very difficult to own their products by being almost none existent in both aftermarket and support. However I find their kits immensely well designed and the out of the box thinking present in most makes the hassle worth the while. My most recent was a DBX VE, and it was awesome.
This looks great.
