Hey guys, I just got an E-Mail from tower with a coupon to get $20 off a $50 order so i think im gonna buy a couple things. Since my Reedy motors arent holding up at all, im thinking hard about the Electrifly S-600. Basically im just looking for something cheap with similar performance to what i have that will last a long time bashing. I saw a video of the S-600 geared 28/83 pulling standing wheelies in a rustler, so it definately looks torquey although im sure it has to be geared up because of the low RPM which is fine. Id probably try something like 18/84 or 18/87 since I have seen some people say that they run right around that gearing to get similar speed as a stock titan, but much more torque.

Anyways, what gearing are you guys running with this motor? I have heard it will last a very long time... Is this the general concensus? Will it have pretty good power on 6 cells?

I dont think I want to buy a $30 motor, so im just going to go with something cheap and this looks like a good option. Ill probably only be running 6 cells on it, so performance will need to be decent on 7.2v. Also, how are run times with this motor? Seems like it should be good because of the low RPM. Also, does it stay cool bashing and climbing hills?

Also, is the shaft plenty long enough to fit a pinion on it in a stampede/rustler just fine? I know some motors have a shaft that is too short which makes it a pain.

It was between this and the HPI 15t Firebolt motor, but the firebolt is out of stock and i have heard a lot of good on this motor anyways, so i may try it. Just looking for some more opinions on this motor. If it will do standing wheelies, and 20-25mph on the top end I will be happy. Thanks for any info

The S-600 is a great cheap motor. They are just a little slower than the Titan on 7.2v but really like a little extra voltage. I have several of those motors in many different cars and trucks. I had one in a pede for 300+ runs and it was run on everything from 2S to 3S and it never once complained. I took it out after I noticed decreased performance but it still ran.

On 7.2V you'll be just above 20 mph. If you run 7 or 8 cells you'll gets into the high 20s low 30s and it is super torquey.

The shaft is just long enough. Be aware you will need to grind a flat spot on the shaft for the grub to sit on. I highly recommend you use blue loctite on the shaft. It's strong enough to Hold the pinion all by itself and is good insurance. It also comes right off with a little heat.

You can see in the pics below what an S-600 on 2S does to bodies, gearboxes and tires Note the complete lack of tread on the rear tires in the second pic.

Thanks for the info! Do you think an 18 tooth pinion would be about right? The biggest one i have is 16 tooth, so im looking to order one with the motor, and I think i may order it this afternoon. I have an 87 and 84 tooth spur. I could always get the 18 and go down on the spur size if i wanted more speed i guess. How hot do these motors run with no heat sink? Can you hold your hand on it after a full battery pack? The only other motor I am considering right now is an HPI Firebolt 15t motor which has plenty of power and runs extremely cool in my FIL's Blitz. However, I am thinking this one should be almost as fast with room to grow in voltage if i need to for some more speed. Plus I like torque and im thinking longevity will be better on this motor. Lower RPM+ higher torque = Less friction and longer lasting bushings(and maybe brushes), so im thinking this is the route im going to go. I can get the firebolt for $15.50 shipped, so the S-600 will cost about $4 more after i buy a pinion for it, but I just think it may be the best route since I havent heard much on the longevity of the firebolt motor yet, and i havent heard one bad thing about the S-600 yet. I should have an update this afternoon i hope.

I run mine at 12/58 (32P) which is the equivalent of about 18/87. The speed is good on 7.2V but like I said it really picks up on higher voltage.

As for the HPI motor. I'm not a fan. I have a Blitz and I was seriously disappointed in it's stock performance when compared to my Slash's. Keep in mind that you will need to gear the 15T around 12/87 or 13/87 so consider this when deciding on your purchase. If you don't have one already you'll need to get a pinion in this range.

If you really want to go with a 15T then I recommend you spend a little more and get a Speed gems. They are worth the extra money

Well, I already have a 12 tooth pinion. so that wouldnt be a problem, but since you think the S-600 is a much better motor than the firebolt and you have owned both, then that is the one i'll go with Ill just have to buy an 18 tooth pinion for it, which isnt really a big deal. Always good to have a variety of pinions to choose from. I havent ever ran or ran with a titan, so i havent experienced how they perform. Anyways, im gonna see about ordering 2 more batteries and an S-600 from tower later today, so ill keep you posted[8D] Do you think the S-600 geared 18/87 at 7.2v in my pede will be similar to a stock blitz on 8.4v? I figure it may be a little slower, but i dont know. I thought about ordering two 7 cell packs, I just havent decided yet. Thanks a lot for the info. Its nice to talk to someone who has ran both motors I was deciding against.

Like he said, it is very torquey. His was not quite as fast on 2S as mine was on 6 cells, but much more torquey. (My Stampede is stock gearing for the later Stampedes)

It will be a little slower than the 15T but things should be pretty close if you run a little move voltage. The stock Blitz only runs around 26 mph even on 8.4V

i wonder how good this motor would be be on 14.4 or 16.8v if it could handle that kind of power i would get one because im like cummins driver 20 30mph is good but i love the long wheel stands

If you do a search of the E-maxx section at Traxxas.com you'll find a few threads of guys running them on 14.4V. I personally have not done that so I can't comment. I can say that a 3S lipo didn't seem to have any negative effects at all. The S-600 in that red Pede above saw it's fair share of 3S as well as a few 8 and 9 cell NiMh packs.

Ooo Thats it I know what my next order is gonna be. I been thinking about goin LiPo and was wondering if that motor would hold up till I can go BL. By the looks of it I'd be perfectly happy with LiPo and the S-600. Thanks for postin that Vid!

Thanks for the video. Looks like it runs well[8D] I still havent made the order. Hopefully tomorrow though. I think that is the route ill go. I actually drove the Blitz tonight(hadnt drove it outside before since its not mine), and while the top speed felt good it did seem a little weaker on the bottom and mid range than id like, so I think the S-600 will be the way to go. Ill keep y'all updated.

Just ordered from tower:

2x 3000mah NiMh duratrax onyx batteries(just 6 cell)
1x S-600 Electrifly motor
1x 18t 48 pitch traxxas pinion
1x TRX male to tamiya female plug

Plus I had a $20 discount for any order $50 or more, which was the main reason for my order. Thats too good of a deal to pass up.

Anyways, im anxious to get it and see how it runs.

i just got a kershaw design 650s but its for my wheely king with the iron outlaw body im gonna run my 8.4v 3000mah nimh wired in parelle but the stampede is my next truck i will put this in my stampede and 9.6v or a 2s lipo hi cummins driver are you snowed in to here in virginia it has snowed ever week for the last 3 weeks

No, im not snowed in here in Ky. We did get about a 6" snow a couple weeks ago which is quite a bit for around here. They are calling for about an inch tonight, but it has been raining all day, so I dont think it will stick. I took my savage out when we had the 6" snow, but that was a little too much.

i just put my kershaw designs 650s in my wheely king with a 19/96 gear on 8.4v i was surpised this thing has a ton of torque and plenty of speed for me not bad for a 20.00 motor can wait to change my esc a run a 3s lipo on this big block

I actually tried an E-Savage 550 motor in my stampede the other day. It wasnt very fast, but torque was alright. 7.2v is pretty low for it though since it is meant to be run with 14.4v. Im hoping the S-600 is much faster on top and has more torque. We'll see.

i think it will be the 650s i thought it was going to be slow but it suprised me i even change the gear to 22/96 it pick up more speed and still had torque but i hope everything work out ok im getting a stampede once i finish with my wheely king hopefully you stampede guys can give me some tips oh ya cummins driver you should try a 9.6v on that  s 600

With high powered Lipo' getting cheaper all the time i've considered buying one of those 650's and running it in a Pede on 4S and seeing how that goes. I have an old E-Maxx ESC laying around so I could do it. I'm sure on the correct voltage that thing would be a rocket.


I know what the 700HO's do to a Revo.

Remember guys that if you're going to go with a big, relatively expensive brushed motor, you can go brushless for not too much more.

At hobbyking, you can get an appropriate brushless motor for around $30, and the ESC for $60-100. Shipping is not too much on these items, since they are light compared to the LiPos people usually buy there.

I guess it is the controllers that really jack up the prices of brushless motors.

well the 650s is only 20.00 but once my 650 plays out im going brushless
