RE: I need help with my HPI E-FIRESTORM
I had a similar problem with mine but it wasn't as bad.
Mine wouldslow at about 50 ft away. Turns out that you can't cut the antena wire or it messes up the range with the reciever. I dont think the ESC would be it. It still might be a good idea to replace it but if it was the ESC it should consisently happen no matter how far away the car is. If the motor is still stock I would put my money on that problem also. My stock motor wore out quick and it were the brushes that started to fray away and made the jerky motor turns. Replacing the motor and ESC witha a brushless wouldn't be a bad idea either. Also keep up your new motor with Power Shot. Its a great cleaner for brushed motors from Duratrax. If you go brushless (which is hand downs way better), theFLUX system on mine has lasted 2 years and is mad fast...

Contact HPI and find out if your esc ha a voltage cut off, if it does ask them how yo can go about disabling it. Tell them you are not running lipos and need to set the the esc for NIMH batterires. If the esc is set for lipos it may be detecting low voltqage and tripping a voltage cut off setting. If that does not work would try to borrow an esc from some one ot your LHS and try it in your vehicle to to see if you destroyed your speed control by running your vehicle in water. I have a firestorm flux 10t and have to be extremely careful to keep water and moisture out of electrics.

That firebolt motor isn't bad for the money. for break in run the truck at like half speed for about 10 minutes to get the brushes seated on the commutator. You wont be able to tell when its done. Or throw the motor in the truck and don't put on the pinion gear yet. plug everything in and turn your throttle rate so the motor turns on its own without pulling the throttle and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. any stock type motor will be about the same 15 - 20 turrns on the motor will give you 20- 30 mph depending on gearing. I am all brushless now and will never look back. Faster, no break in,faster, longer lasting, faster. You can get a good setup for about $150. that is ten brushed motors. I run my trucks almost everyday and the traxxas brushless motor lasts years as for stock brushed motors weeks. If you go into higher quality rebuildable brushed motors you could get the same performance as brushless but spend $40 - 50 on motors and have a lot maintenance like every 3-6 runs.

Dannybear,
The one you found isa decent brushless system. Personally imothe upgrade from HPI is a very good grade brushless system

I love it and it is made for your car. Get a nice lipo and you will have no more problems...
