Hey mate, how are you finding your levant? I also have one. How is your in the snow? Ok? I purchased some wet-e which is supposed to waterproof the electrical points but I'm a bit nervous...
Have you broken anything on it?

Will have to test that out some more. All my other gears (diffs, etc) are fine. That's all I've broken on it so far. Not too shabby.
I haven't run it much in snow, not sure how the tires will handle that. I've gone through mud (lots and lots of mud), puddles, maybe light snow. But it hasn't been soaked or anything, so I can't speak to how waterproof it is. Hopefully your wet-e does the trick!

RE: Tamiya Levant Brushless XB Tear Down Thread
Hi.
I dont know if this thread is still going, but i'm going to buy a levant on monday.
I know it is old and discontinued, but I wanted a tamiya truggy and this looks awesome
And im gonna put a sky rc leopard 9t brushless in in, and make a steel or aluminium spur gear.
Cant wait to get it
Is it possible to do wheelies with it?

Hey, depends how big your going with battery but these things sit pretty low and tend so wheel spin alot!
I am assuming you are buying the newer "super levant"?
My guess is that you will strip the spur pretty quickly or break an axle. If your trying to get it running like an E-revo then you should just cough up the $....you WONTregret it. Otherwise they are a cool piece of kit and a good addition to a collection.
Let me know how you get on and post some vids on youtube!

My hobby shop dont have the super levant, and the e-revo is over twice the price (have to order online).
Im gonna go with metal spur gear, so i guess its the axels that will take the beatings then.
Its easy for my hobby shop to get tamiya parts, and i aslo like to support my local hobby shop
I will be running 7.2 or 8.4 5000 mAh nimh batteries (dont like the lipos cause of maintenence and cut off etc) :P
Will post pics and videos next week

Fair enough. If you like the store then Iagree with supporting it. But remember they are a business aswell and they wont always support you .
My local shop are idiots and so buy most of my stuff online.
Are you sure sure the levant has a spur? Mine didnt, but Iknow the Super Levant does.
I think with NimH you will struggle to do wheelies....but by all means prove me wrong. If I were you I would also get atleast one Lipo and of around 4200mha. Dont run it for longer than 15mins though as although the levant comes with a lipo ESC, mine didnt have a cut off. weird Iknow!
But the Lipo on those things is awesome!!
Looking forward to the videos!

RE: Tamiya Levant Brushless XB Tear Down Thread
The store will support me, it has for 12 years. and its only one man working there, so its a small shop that takes care of costumers
I think I have misundestood the name of the gear (sorry if my english confuses you):P I mean the plastic gear on the center shaft, i will make one of metal.
I will try it with nimh batteries to start with, and maybe invest in lipos later, if thay are so good that people say they are.
My esc can only take 2s lipo, and i dont understand that 0.2 volts more can make such a different.(maybe lipos are magic??) :P

You've got the name of the gear right, it does have a spur (doesn't all RC vehicles have a spur?). Now, it does not have a slipper clutch (although the Super Levant does), nor a center differential. But it does have a spur.
Good luck! You'll enjoy it. The only issue I had was the stock spur went out on me, but if you're already upgrading it, that'll be ok. Bigger/faster BL power will be harder on it of course, but what what I ran (stock electronics and 2s lipo), it held up just fine - only the spur needed replacing.
I realize the stock electronics on it do not have a LiPo cutoff, so I just ran really carefully.
And yes, switching to LiPo alone makes a huge difference. More power from a dead stop, no slowdown as the battery discharges until it's almost out (but for LiPo, you don't let it get that far! As soon as is starts to slow, you're done unless your cutoff already stops it for you). It's really night and day. I think it adds 5MPH to top end too, from what I hear.
I've really noticed it when I went to LiPo in a powerful BL setup, and even in a mild 23 turn brushed setup. It's nice.

Oh, and regarding wheelies, I'm doubting it - it's a low sitting vehicle with weight up front (4wd), and the tires, while good, aren't massively grippy. But I guess with enough power you never know.

The wheelie is not so importent, just would have been fun.
Hmm lipo does sound awesome, but gonna see if im happy with the performance with nimh batteries first.

Yeah, no problem at all. All I used was 2 cell.
BUT! Make sure you put install a 4Euro low voltage indicator OR do what I did which was keep an eye on the speed of the car and as soon as I noticed it loosing power I changed batteries. I dont let my Lipos run below 7.4V.
Although the ESC doesnt have an auto lipo cutoff. The manual says it will take Lipo and the shop I bought it from said it was no problem.
Cheers,
R.
