new motor for my truck
hey guys .
i am still an ametuer rc truck racer and have bought my self an Himoto emxt-1 and have seemed very pleased with that for a year , but now i want to only upgrade my motor as i have built a trailer for my boat and helicopter and now would like to start towing tandem , the motor i have now is a stock 540 size , preferably i would like to stay in the brushed range now , do not have the finds to convert everything to brush-less ,
i need a motor that have a lot of talk and i bit of speed at the same time ... i need to toss up some choices please help !!
thanks

if you want to stay with brushed motors you could try a "stock race" motor like the trinity c027.
tamiya also make a nice variety of brushed motors, the gt tuned 25t, the superstock bz 27t, just search "tamiya motor" on ebay and you'll see them all.
stay away from venom motors, i have a couple of them and they are very low on power, the trinity and tamiya motors are much better.

RE: new motor for my truck
Brushless setups have gotten so cheap and are so much more powerful than brushed, that it doesn't make sense not to get them if you want more power. With a truck like that, the cheap ESC is going to limit your power just as much as the cheap can. You'd have to upgrade them both to see any marked improvement, and at that point, you might as well go brushless. HK has a [link=http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=10438&Product_Name=Brushless_Car_Power_System_3600kv/35A]cheap brushless combo[/link] that will give you more power than you could ever need in a 1/10 truck.

HK is based in China, so I'm pretty sure they'll ship anywhere. 5200KV is too high for a 1/10 truck, especially if you're towing something. Higher KV ratings mean higher RPM, but lower torque. The 3600Kv motor in the kit I linked is even on the high side for 4WD, but you can probably compensate for that with a smaller pinion. Power-wise, it'll have more than enough.

RE: new motor for my truck
these are a HSP truck, they come with a 3300kv motor in stock brushless form, and a 7.2volt nimh.
I'm running a 3s lipo in mine, with a 26t pinion in place of the 18t stock.
it overheats, but its fun!
if you're only going to run the lower voltage, and stock gearing, you'll have no issues with the 3600kv, but if you plan to use higher voltage, you'll need something around 3000kv.

RE: new motor for my truck
I have the himoto mega-e MT10. This is similar to the emxt1 and if the emxt1 is geared like the MT10 then in stock form with the brushed motor it is waaay overgeared.
When i went brushless with mine i went from the stock 23T pinion down to a 19T pinion and smaller diameter tires with a 3350 Kv motor.
With that gearing i am able to run either 2s or 3s in grass without any overheating.
Stick all your info into this calculator: http://scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/_top_speed.html
and aim for a final gear ratio of around 10 or higher and use a motor less than 4000 kv and you're set!
Also check your motor, esc and battery temps. to make sure they are in the safe range.
One more thing to note is that you may have to upgrade to steel diff gears if you have plastic and your drive cups and center dogbone will begin wearing quickly. You may encounter a couple twisted dogbones along the way too

thanks guys !!! would a 5200 KV be over powering it ? IM LOOKING FOR SPEED !!!!!!!! and some torque at the same time ...... the ESC has overheating and overcurrent protection

5200 is too high for 4wd off road 1/10 scale. You'll just end up overheating the motor and ruining it. 3000-4000 is where you want to be. Trust me, it will be more than fast enough for you.

RE: new motor for my truck
The better approach would be to use one motor in the range 3000-4000 kv and increase your voltage or gearing for when you want more speed but keep a close eye on temps.

The bz is 23t
Tamiya motors are very good
Dirt tuned - 27t
Super stock BZ - 23t
Super stock TZ - 23t
Super stock RZ - 23t
The b/t/rZ motors are the touquiest of the lot
The rz is the fastest by a small tad
bz is the best for what you want

RE: new motor for my truck
Dude....if that is what a 3600kv motor will do, thel ill defenately stick by my brushed. I got the same Himoto truck as Dirt Kicker, and swapped the pinion out to a 17t for speed and atatched that to a modified 17t tamiya motor....(one i got from a guy why "whired" them), and im getting 70km/h with a gps sensor attached.
Im currently in the process of getting a setup ready for my himoto....4.5 trinity brushless....its overkill i know but im not in for racing on a track, NOOOOO......im in for killing a certain traxxis that i cant catch up to once it hits second gear....
By the way Dirt Kicker......dont depend on the stock ESC that you got with your car......once it gets too hot....and i mean....ONCE....it wont cut out for nothing..........!!!! Im now using a LRP ECS...and it super for now
