Looking for Something like the Tamiya
Repsol.
I don't know much when it comes to tamiya, I used to own a Alfa 156GTA many many years ago.
My request is that I'm looking for a christmas present to my self And I want it to be something like the Repsol (heck even the repsol would be fine if it is durable) for off road scale looks and I plan on running it through snow/wet/dirt conditions. So I need to know if it is durable, if the drive train/transmission can handle a tamed brushless (2S) setup, and what brushless system do you recommend for the vehicle? I was looking at some of the vileneon water proof setups. I'm not looking for speed. I just want something fun to take out onto some packed snow and act like it's a rally course, dirt, and even rain conditions.
There are so many tamiya models I'm lost. Rally cars are fine too. Any Rally Car or those SUV Rally trucks (Like a Bowler Nemesis).
This video gives a nice idea of what I wanna do!

I have a 3rd channel switch on my remote so I am planning on setting up LEDs for front and rear controlled by the 3rd channel s/w and I plan on making mud flaps, and adding many more small details.
It also doesnt have to be a tamiya. I know a good bit about Kyosho Nitro models but absolutely 0 about the electric. The DRX rally cars from Kyosho (nitro) are really sick and if their electric models are any good then I wouldnt mind. My problem is I have no idea about any of the chassis/drive trains to know their strengths and weaknesses.
oh wow this guys racing lancer df-03 looks amazing!

The DRX is pretty impressive for it's priced, it's based off their standard 1/10 nitro platform which is robust, upgradeable, and performs well. I've never driven the DRX itself but I've owned some of it's brothers and sisters.
To be completely honest the Tamiya rally stuff is more for scale driving than serious off roading. I'd recommend a more race/bash oriented vehicle.
HPI is coming out with a really nice looking RTR Mini Trophy Truck (Mini not being so mini at 1/12) It's a whole new scale chassis with swing arms, scale looks, and a robust brushless capable drivetrain (comes brushed though) It's not available yet so I don't think you'll find many opinions about it, but it looks nice and HPI isn't known to make junk.
Would you be willing to consider a short course truck? If so there are tons to choose from since they're all the craze these days. Nitro, gas, electric, the works.
Here's a few shots of it.

RE: Looking for Something like the Tamiya
Thanks for the suggestion but I have a Franken Slayer I built a year ago, Slayer parts, Revo 3.3 chassis, SC8 wheels and larger hex hubs, and a revo body so it looks kind of odd/cool oh and it has an OS 21tm in it so it hauls ass. I used it at the track mostly but it is very resilient in bashing. I like the HPI mini trophy truck but I am not that crazy about it since I already own a short course truck (I have a retired Strike too, what a POS that was). I have to admit that hpi truck has a killer rear suspension setup... hahahah
The truck is not off my list but it isnt very high.
now that I think about it. a vileneon water proof setup and the hpi truck... sounds like some good fun.

Ah ok so you already have a great short course truck.
Are you looking for speed or more scale climbing/running ability?

If you aren't concerned about speed and want to off road how about something like a scale trail rig.

Hmm? I guess I can't link it here for some reason. If you go to RC4WD.com and go to the scale Truck Kits it is the 1/10 T Finder scale truck kit. They have a bunch of other cool models on the site too.

RE: Looking for Something like the Tamiya
Being a Tamiya person, I'd look at a DF-03RA rallye (or a DF-03 Buggy). It's a modern, shaft driven 4WD chassis with full ball bearings, oil shocks, low mainteneance and plenty of hop-up parts. It's also a pretty cost effective way to combine scale looks and decent handling for bashing.
