yes what you chose will work, just remember to gear it correctly, and that HPI has the firestorm flux which has a 5700 kv motor in it.

with stock tyres, and stock gearing, it would be geared for about 50kph.

I have a firestorm with a VXL in it and it probably goes about 35mph with 2s
and about 50 with 3s. This is a guessumation, as I have never GPS's it.
I have the stock gearing and have never had a problem.

If you can swing it, go for the EZ Run 60 A and 8.5T motor combo. I believe that Leopard motor as well as the whole turn number EZ Run motors (like 8T, 9T etc.) are really 380 size motors in a 540 size can. The 8.5T and any other .5T motor is the actual 540 size motor. You'll notice a huge difference in power as well as it will run much cooler. I have the EZ Run 60A and 8.5T combo in my High Roller and it rips. I geared it up and still can go up much more. But, it's not meant for high speed runs so I'm happy where I'm at now. I am going to buy that exact same combo for my Rustler once I upgrade my tranny to all metal gears.

As far as the battery, I run these.

Same capacity as the one you're looking at, hardcase, and actually $1 cheaper.

If you do buy the motor/ESC from hobbypartz, I'd recommend the Thunder AC6 from them for charging. It's about the same price as separate charger and power supply from hobbyking, and it has the exact same interface as the Turnigy charer they sell.

For gears, I'm not familiar with the Firestorm, but isn't it just 48 pitch gears? Use any Traxxas, Losi, or Robinson Racing pinion. I have all 3, prefer the Losi.

it is 48p, but I'd start with stock gearing first, and see what temps are like.

Save your money, buy a proven brushless system and think about 4s+ lipo. While you are saving, use the time to research gear ratios, tires, etc.

It will be cheaper in the long run.

The EZrun systems are proven, my statement is not based simply on my own use, but I have used nearly every system on the market and I consider Hobbywing to be one of the most reliable. I do second the recommendation to go with the 8.5 combo though, it is better suited to a truck like the Firestorm. Don't even consider 4s in this truck, I will assume the person who recommended that was thinking you have a 1/8th or a monster truck.

^^ +1

The 8.5T combo is ideally suited for the Firestorm/Rustler/Desert Truck/Stampede/Slash trucks.

I can't see anyone not being more than happy with this in their trucks.

7700 kv is too high for that truck.

Stick with 3000-4000 kv

Sounds like you have already made up your mind so why ask for advice?
