esc behaving strange

hello
i have a HIMOTO 1:18 SCALE TRUGGY with brushed motor
recently the esc (speed controller) has been acting strange.

switch it on, all is fine, seconds later it slowly moves backwards on its own, then quickly builds up to full speed.
sometimes randomly it will not move forward or backward
sometimes randomly it will only move slow, then let off the accelerator, apply it again and all is fine.

fresh batteries does not solve it. adjusting trim does not solve it.
im at a loss what to do
any idea whats going on and how i might fix it?

thanks

Just from your description, I'd say either the ESC needs to be calibrated to the transmitter again (you know, the procedure where you "teach" the ESC where Full-Throttle, Full-Reverse and Neutral is), or, the ESC has gone bad for some reason.  Do you have the truck's electronics manual to look up how to do that procedure?

^ I agree... Would be he best starting pont.... Also double check the wires from the ESC to the motor including the connectors. Pay close attention to where the wires are soldered onto the ESC's circuit board.

RE: esc behaving strange

thanks
the instructions i have show a different transmitter and receiver to what i have.
it says:
1 turn on receiver, press SW switch, LED should start flashing
2 turn on transmitter
3 when LED becomes solid binding is complete

so what i tried is
1 turn on receiver, press bind button, LED starts flashing
2 turn on transmitter
3 LED keeps flashing forever and does not respond to transmitter

also tried pressing bind on receiver and trying things in different order ect and nothing seems to make it bind
transmitter LED breifly flashes after pressing bind but receiver never stops flashing
still get the same behaviour after every attempt
not sure i want to try pulling the ecs apart just yet

heres an image best quality i can get with my phone

edit;
oops its upside down sry

this is a great little car, fun, tough and fast, hope i can fix it without having to spend more money

ok i pulled the ecs apart and it all looks fine, although i dont know wat im looking for really
its just a very tiny circuit board, very clean, no obvious wires off or lose

OK, so you have a different Tx/Rx than what is stock.  That shouldn't matter.  Is the ESC stock?  That is, whatever came with the truck originally and is described in your manual.  It's the ESC that needs calibrating, mate.  Not the Tx/Rx.

If the ESC doesn't have some kind of setup button, then there should be some sort of special sequence that puts the ESC in Cal mode.  That should be described in the truck's manual.  Something like: Turn on Tx and pull full throttle,THEN turn on ESC. ESC should blink or beep some signal.  Then give Tx Full Reverse and hold.  Transmitter beeps or flashes another signal.  Etc.

As for binding the Tx/Rx, you'd have to look up that procedure by the brand of the Tx/Rx.

Indeed, you are looking for the calibration routine in your manual, but also make sure you haven't accidentally changed the trims on the transmitter.

RE: esc behaving strange

yes the esc and transmitter are what came with the truck
it does bind and i can controll the car, just doesnt seem to be calibrated

the only thing i can see in the manual that might be the calibration is 'fail safe function setting'
it says to press the F/S SET button on the receiver, however there is only the on/off switch and the bind button.

not sure what to do next

Na na.....what yer looking for is a button on the ESC.  Forget the receiver and binding for now.  Your issue is with the ESC.
You need to find something in the manual that describes how to set up the ESC.  Look in the "initial setup" or some such part of the manual.  It's usually the very first thing one does with a new RC.  If you have the manual for the ESC, it's GOT to be in there somewhere.  Initial setup, setting throttle end points, something like that.

Oh no...... I just looked, its got a combined servo,ESC and receiver.... 3 in one

Have u still got the manual?

Found it.....

I've got to run, when I'm home ill have a read and see what I can work out... Fingers crossed

RE: esc behaving strange

thanks for taking the time to help
its actually this exact manual and this exact car apart from the esc/transmitter

if you look on pages 5 and 6, then compare it to the picture i posted earlier you will see my problem, its not the same at all.
the only button on the 3 in 1 esc is the bind button.
