Vintage Tamiya Blackfoot restoration
6 Attachment(s)
Here's the second vintage I got. It's a blackfoot it great condition minus the front, right tire(crushed), and the body could use a bit of work. But mostly, this one is an easier restoration that the willy was, it's a much easier to work on design. Here's the before shots
Attachment 2239688 Attachment 2239689 It has hand made rear shock mounts and extended front shock tower to allow the use of the upgraded shocks. The uhh..."fabricating" job on the parts is less than par unfortunately. I wish I had the original rear parts but at least I can make some nice looking new ones. Here's what put a smile on my face, all the driveline componets are in mint condition after i gave them a cleaning, they had some dust and thickened ball diff grease but now they're like new. The cost of this ball diff setup on ebay is crazy so I'm sure happy to see one in my truck! Attachment 2239690 Attachment 2239691 Attachment 2239692 Attachment 2239693 I'll post pics as I make progress. All that's left is to remount the msc and work on the tires, wheels, and body. Tell me what you think. |

RE: Vintage Tamiya Blackfoot restoration
ORIGINAL: Lunchboxer So where's the WW-1?! :D I do have one more to pull out, probably the most valuable out of the three, but it's missing a few parts so... Today I reassembled it all and cleaned the tires/wheels. Front tires are blackfoot and the rear are monster beetle's:DI had to do this because of the crushed front tire. I'll get pics up later. |
RE: Vintage Tamiya Blackfoot restoration
I like those "RARE" red aluminum wheel hubs.:D
Those shocks look like they came off an original Associated RC-10. Seems like it also has that expensive thorp diff that originally came in the awesome looking Super Champ. I truly hope you keep this and dont put it on ebay, I wouldn't. It's quite dirty, but that is easily done with elbow grease...:D |

RE: Vintage Tamiya Blackfoot restoration
What did you use on all the molded parts to get them to shine so nicely?
|
RE: Vintage Tamiya Blackfoot restoration
Everything was just soap and water accept I used armor all on the shock tower and radio box cover.

RE: Vintage Tamiya Blackfoot restoration
Wow that blackfoot really looks great. Ive got a super blackfoot that really needs some love. its missing the front shock tower and the shocks in all four corners. Do you know if the 86 blackfoot front shock tower will fit on the super blackfoot? [&:][&:]
