HPI Blitz brushless upgrade ?

What is a good motor/esc combo for the blitz for track, and bashing at the house? Also will I need to upgrade the stock pinion and spur? I don't want to spend more than $250.00.
There are so many combos out there from novak, castle, losi, lrp.... I am lost on them all. Oh yea it has to be setup for 2s lipos because I have a ton of them already.

This is a really good setup, but it may be a little too fast for racing. I would get this and save your money for other upgrades. These have proven to be very reliable, more reliable than many of the big name brands out there. Of course I am a huge Castle fan, I think they make the best products in the world. And their customer service is as good as it gets. A Mamba Max or Mamba Max Pro with a 4600 motor would be a little more suited to racing on a track, but not quite as much fun for bashing. Any of the popular setups would be fine really, but we all have our favorites! These are my two favs!

RE: HPI Blitz brushless upgrade ?

Like I said I love Castle and I think they are the best in the business. BUT, for the money the Hobbyking setup I linked is more powerful, its more equal to a Mamba Max instead of a Sidewinder. It also uses a sensored design. I for one could care less about sensored, but for the same price why not. Many people like the feel of a sensored motor better as well. The Hobbyking brushless is a re-labeled XERun system, which is a great system. The Castle systems are extremely tuneable with the Castlelink, but if you are at the track or in the field you have to either bring a laptop or do it manually which is a royal pain in the buttocks. Castle has now said they will be releasing a programming card like the one this combo comes with, the reason being that everyone who has ever used a card absolutely loves them. It fits in your pocket and barely weighs anything, but allows you to make adjustments trackside in seconds. The only real advantage to a Sidewinder is the great customer service and no hassle warranty, but many people are using the XERuns and will tell you they are just as reliable as any. Either system will make you very happy, and both will give years of service if treated properly. The real choice is how much power do you want??

Hi
This is my first post and I have a HPI Racing Blitz and am looking to upgrade too.
I contcacted HPI Racing support and they recommended their #1151 WARP 5700Kv brushless motor and MOTIV ESC
http://www.hpiracing.com/products/en/1151/

What do you guys think?

crappy motor, crappy esc.

so, if you get that combo, you'll want to replace the motor, and the esc :)

;)

The Traxxas Velineon 3500kv is nice for the money.

http://www.traxxas.com/products/acce...s_velineon.htm

but, if you only want to run 2s, you might want something a bit faster.

however, if you have $250 to spend, why not get some 3s lipos too? ;)

I have been playing around with motor/ESC combinations in short course trucks for about 12 months and probably the most significant thing that I found out was:-
Best performance SEEMS to be with motors in the 3000kv to 5000kv range with recommended gearing-this keeps the temperatures within an acceptable range.
Use an ESC of at least 60 AMPS.
Use a decent Lipo battery that has a continous discharge of 100 AMPS(or more) and at least 4000MAh capacity(2s).
These are my personal findings only and suit me and my driving style-mainly bashing, other people will of course have their own opinions.

IN THE GARAGE:
Factory Brushless E-Revo.
E-Revo brushless conversion-EZrun 150 AMP ESC/2250KV motor.
Slash 4WD-Stock.
Slash 2WD-Xcelorin 4800KV motor/EZrun 80 AMP ESC.
Slash 2WD- Mamba 4600KV motor/Sidewinder ESC.
HPI Blitz-Xcelorin 4800KV motor/Sidewinder ESC.
HPI Blitz Velineon VXL 3500KV motor/sidewinder ESC.
Hyper 10 SC-Novak HV PRO 6.5t sensored combo.

what do you guys think about Sidewinder Castle Creations ESC 4600kV Motor 4600 KV for the Blitz?
can this be installed without any modifications? and run the NiMH batteries too... no Lipo batts here, atleast not yet.

That will be a perfect combo for the Blitz. If you want cheap and good lipo, check out HobbyCity. They are more affordable than Ni-MH and you will notice big performance gain.

That's what I run in the Blitz...though Castle would prefer you use a Mamba Max or MMPro with the 4600 or 5700 though in a 1/10 SC. I think for the track the 4600 is the better choice; 5700 is way more speed than you really can use on a track and will drain batteries faster. For a pure basher though that won't see any track time I would consider the 5700 because speed is fun for bashing! I run the Sidewinder 5700 in my E-Firestorm which I only use for bashing. The weight difference between the two really almost seems negligible...though the longer wheelbase of the Blitz does keep the truck planted a bit better (which I suppose would put more strain on the motor and ESC) so it can turn that torque into speed instead of wheelies which the Firestorm likes to do alot!

From time to time really good deals come-up on Sidewinder 4600 combos so really it can be a great value.

I have been using a Mamba Max Pro with the Traxxas Velineon 3500kv motor. Setup runs nice and cool with plenty of power and speed.

what gearing are you running for the 4600 and 5700 on your Blitz? Thanks in advance!
