pick out my 1st electric truck
 

okay so about a year or so ago i decided to get into these things. went to my local hobby shop picked out a nitro 2.5 tmaxx. spent prob close to $600 then i start having problems 3 weeks into it. long story short it was not a good first experience. had it and maintained it for about 3 months then i tapped out. my downfall is lack of understanding of how to tune a nitro engine. so now that i've got that out of the way i want to purchase a good starter electric truck or buggy thats not gonna cost me a fortune. im thinking $260 tops. considering the stampede, rustler and the slash. open to more suggestions though. $300 is my absolute top dollar i would even consider on one ,givin my 1st experience. i understand you still have to work on any of them but i have seen first hand nitros are more tempermental.

Associated T4.1. I believe they are around 230 bucks. Spend the rest on batteries and a charger.

i know this sounds dumb but are parts for that particler car easy to get/cheap? also the arms look pretty fragile. any reviews from a reputable site? also when i did have my tmaxx i never really raced but i did beat the crap out of it on a daily basis.. when it would run haha anyways my yard/ other places i would run near here have alot of rocks that i would bust shocks/ a arns.

The T4 is 1000000 times more durable than the E-Maxx. It may look thin and fragile, but it doesn't weigh anything so you can beat it up as much as you like and not really have to worry about breaking anything. Associated is a well known brand so parts should be easy to get. Don't know if they're cheap to you but they are to me.

Take a look at a E-firestorm Flux, Really wish they would include a 2.4ghz instead of the AM junker.

it just looks like its made for a straight up dirt track. im sure you know more than i do about these things but could you kinda see how i would think that those things would break all the time? lol i mean my t maxx has these thick ass arms and i busted a couple in the short time i had it. also what charger and batteries would you recommend?

could you describe what you mean with the radio? again sorry for the dumb questions guys. its been a while and the little bit i did know is all gone. i do like this one though. also coming from another forum on a totally different topic that some people who are new to a hobby come off as beyond helping. thats how i feel like i sound here haha

It comes with a Radio that uses the AM freq. which means you cant race somebody with the same channel and you may get interference etc. alot of new RC's come with 2.4 ghz radios and you get longer ranges as well as not worrying about being on the same channel as others

I should also say that these are 2wd and dont do too great in long grass etc, Better for a combo of onroad and mild offroad.

that does sound like a bit of a drawback. see my other truck had a 2.4 ghz radio with it and i really loved how i could just take it all the way down the road and just come hauling back lol. any opinions on the slash? thats the one im considering the most. i just want something thats reliable. something i can beat the crap out of in general. terrain where i live is dry dusty somewhat bumpy some grass/hills and pretty big rocks.

Can't help you with the 1/10 slash. I have owned the 1/16 slash VXL and did not like it but I have heard good thigs about its bigger brother:)

Im thinking of the 4x4 slash my-self. I have a strike
Granted no one like the strike but i really liked it and it was dirt cheap but i really wish i had a 4x4.

oh okay well another dumb question, do you think something with that kinda ground clearence/ build would take just bashing around the yard jumping the **** out of it and the occassional stump and rock hitting? maybe i have the wrong impression of those kinda trucks. they just seem like they would break easy. btw thanks for all the help so far http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gif

its not deserted just not everyone has an answer and usually refrain from posting unless they know for sure.

The slash 4x4 should take a couple of good whacks without breaking. If you break something buy RPM replacement parts those parts can take massive abuse.

If you want one of the ultimate trucks(savage flux) that can take massive abuse you would have to double your budget, and then some (not counting batteries) But even then that will break eventually too if you hit em just right.

Look at Hobbyking's offerings. I know the arms are thin but the truck doesn't weigh much, the quality of the plastic is much better than a Maxx, and the engineering is much more solid. It may be built for the track but they see way more abuse on the track so bashing is no issue for it.

okay thats fair enough. so with all things considered , what would be my best option? kinda like price/performance/durability.
what i do get is pretty much gonna be a beater and just something to have fun with. maybe something to get my foot back in the door.

I think you're best option would be the T4.1. It's a good truck within your budget and with the money out of the 300 you have left over you can buy batteries.

alright actually found out more stuff about the t4 and its all good. what kind of batteries and charger would you recommend ? whats the top speed on these things? im kinda sold on it right now.

Top speed I can't say. But even on 2S it won't be much of a slouch. If you change gearing you could probably run 3S but I think you'll want to save the big power for later.

Battery cell count. 2S is 2 cells and 3S is 3 cells. More cells=higher voltage.

Higher voltage leads to higher motor speed and potentially a faster truck. Run time is affected by the pack's capacity measured it milliamp-hours (mAh).

okay so more voltage = better performance and mah is just completely run time right? what about the lipos? how are they different? also another thing i dont get at all is when they talk about a electric motor what do they mean by turn? i see 3.5 turn, 5 turn, 7 turn etc.
