Lee's Tamiya F104 PRO build thread
I cant wait to get stuck into this build [8D]
There were two of these F104 PRO released, the standard version and the one with the lightweight body (slightly thinner lexan) so i went for the cheapest, as i am ditching the stock body.. Tamiya will also release a black edition which features black aluminium parts instead of blue, but its not available yet..
I'm not a huge Ferrari fan, but it beats the stock shell..
Tamiya also released a special paint to go with the F60 body..

RE: Lee's Tamiya F104 PRO build thread
time to crack on with it! [8D]
parts tree's, parts bags, manual, decals, plus a setting sheet..
carbon upper and lower deck, rear shaft and friction plate..
bling!! bits on left are included with kit, bits on right are hop ups purchased separately..
need a helping hand, Tamiya style!! no more lost parts!! [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

RE: Lee's Tamiya F104 PRO build thread
tools included with kit (will only use the box wrench, the rest round off too easily..)
T bar, rear diffuser and pivot post attached..
it helps to have a good hex driver as the screws go in pretty deep (this was the reason i half built and sold my previous F104 PRO, the screws kept rounding)
motor pod built up and looking good! shouldnt have a problem with heat build up

more bling! rest assured this baby wont round off!
rear shaft assembly coming together..
opted for a stickier grease, rather than the standard Tamiya ball diff grease..
ball diff attached to rear shaft..

motor (Novak XBR 8.5) fitted and gear mesh adjusted..
functional bling.. aluminium front upper suspension mount actually allows for more (camber) tunability than the stock plastic one.. 1/1.5/2/2.5 degree's vs 1 & 2 degree's..
TRF damper (needs no introduction!!)
decided on orange #300 weight oil..

The F104 is an amazing build. Even better with those shiny blue Tamiya hop-ups you have there.
I love my F104, too bad it never gets used[]

Hey Lee, very nice build so far. You do good work my friend.
I'm not sure if you've ordered this or not, but it's a good pieces to have. The wheel stopper - clamp type rear tire mount. The name is a little off to me but oh-well. This part replaces the rear hub (on the non-drive/gear side) and spacer (54240). It offers better bite when tightening it to the graphite rear axle and it won’t deform it when tightening, like the stock one can.

RE: Lee's Tamiya F104 PRO build thread
thanks for the advice Vyger.
decided to tackle the body today, and its unlike anything ive seen before..
the stock shell requires the side pontoons cutting off and adding some curvier ones, i'm not sure why its done this way as it takes far more cutting and is a total pain.. [:@]
in the picture, the left side has stock side pontoons and the right side has the more scale ones..

both side pontoons cut and attached.. also sanded the body, which is very hard as you have very little room to manoeuvre..

not really, just waiting for a titanium screw set to come in.. the body will likely be finished before the chassis..
