Not much done here lately, but i turned the front body mount to get rid of too much overhang as mentioned above. Gained about 20 mm with that. I also wrapped the rear piece of plywood in tape so it looked a bit nicer After making the body mounts i was able to mark up the holes in the body when aligning the body after the wheels and centering it up, i am going to drill the holes soon.

The pinion i got the other day was totally wrong (my fault), so i will have to get a new one when i am going to order the paint.

Installed the steering servo which followed the car by the way! A Hitec HS-5625 MG with 9,4 kg in torque.

I need to ask what those aluminum angle stock custom parts are for - flush body mounts?

What, these?

Yes, they are for mounting the body on. Maybe not that flush as they are protruding the body the "normal" way.

Wow - that is wicked sweet

I would dare (if I were you) to dremel out and thin the weight off those aluminum body mounts. I would be not perfect, but close enuf for strength/ asthectics.

I really like the radial tread pattern on your tires - but they look like they would scrub out on cornering and braking. You didn't go for knobbies? Or block treads? Those gotta be your on-road shoes

Nice custom RC8e - I am envious but not jealous. Max that mother out for rally!!!!! Hell yeah - you might bring that faction back, side - to - side against the trophy trucks (I think they're called something else though)

Looking forward to a video on the finished project!!!!! I support you!!!!!

Sweet - Ha!

Hey - I see Integy parts or a part. They were not so "fit friendly" on my AE TC5FT. I threw out my Integy front and rear aluminum hubs for my ride b/c the rears trashed my bearings and the front hubs binded up the steering system. How are those parts working for you? I wish you more luck than I've had . . . .

For your information -sorted the pics i couldn't get to upload in some posts above here

And as earlier said, the body mounts weighs 19 grams each -nothing to worry about as the car weighs about 3800 grams race ready weight, and even heavier now with this -compared to the light and small stock buggy body- quite larger body.

The tires are truly on road/asphalt, but i will maybe get some rally block tires for gravel and similar. I can't go much bigger than 100 mm in diameter because of the wheel arches, which the on road-tires are now.

Thanks for your support and that you are following my build! I already have some plans for putting mudflaps on, but time will show what happens

What to do if you got a spare shock tower? Make a plate in aluminium for the centerdiff/motormount The holes on the front bearing holder was 1 mm closer to eachother on the shock tower than on the plate, so i drilled these to 4 mm and got them to line up by gaining 0,5 mm on each side. On the holes for the motormount i marked them up and just drilled them. Had to file two small notches for the diffspur to run freely, alternatively i could just have raised it by using spacers or washers, but i am not that kind

Have some cans of paint on its way now, i went for plain white as i can't quite get myself to like yellow for some reason. Thinking of maybe custom make some Repsol decals in red and orange to put on the rear corners of the body like shown below:

A little teaser before the year ends! All is masked up, holes for bodypins and the spoiler is drilled so all it needs now is paint. Which i have, but i am going away tonight and will not be back until next year

Going to adjust the body mounts a bit to get equal height front and rear, but this will be done after the painting.

Ready with the wiring now, had a little test drive on the floor just to see if all works. Very satisfied with it as i think it got very clean, with only battery- and motorwires highly visible. I wrapped the wire from the ESC to the radiobox in shrinkwrap to get a cleaner and less visible wire, and also a bit of additional protection.

I found out it would be best to make some supprt for the wing and the bolt going through it, so i took these pellets, put them in a cup

poured hot water over them

and they end up in this substance

Here they are, cooled down and hardened:

Oh, and here is the body, you can't go wrong with one colour Glad i kept myself from painting it with two colours this time. Not all that satisfied with the decals, they slip too easy where they are curved, especially the blue one on the front of the bonnet. I have masked the front- and rearlights to put LED's in them later on if i want to.

I'll give you a reply Lars. Nice conversion. I've been thinking of doing the same for a while now with my LX1E. I went the short course truck route once already, need a change. One question. I didn't see anything mentioned about the suspension. I've seen the rc8, the suspension is pretty soft and with alot of travel. Any plans or driving impressions as it sits?

Thank you, Maj. Ehh, nice thinking! I hope you make a thread about your conversion. Looks like you can do it pretty much the same way as i have done it, if you haven't got any other radical plans.

Well, i haven't got to try the car as i bought it after the snow came. And it is still a good three months until the bare tarmac shows up on the parking lots and around[&o] I think the car is pretty stiff now, with 80 wt oil all around and 6 hole pistons in the shocks. It is really only a onroad basher, so i am not that serious with the setup. But if it handles like nothing i have ever seen i have to do some changes on it.

Have made a frontbumper for it, i used a bread chopping board I mounted it a bit lower than the body so i don't scrape it when it nosedives. I have also made quick bodymounts so i don't have to use clips to attatch the body with, now it stays in place with magnets.
I can in fact lift the whole car by the body.

When i bought the car i got some buggy bodies with it, these will not be used so i thought i might as well make a protection lid from one of them. But i thought it was kind of cool with having it matte black Looks like a Stealth-fighter, hehe. I also made a wing mount so i can bolt the wing directly to where the angled aluminium for the body posts are placed if i want to use it as a buggy.

I also did a little modification to the ESC by buiyng a part made for Traxxas cars that holds the ESC in place, it is made for the Mamba Monster.
