RE: On Road driving/racing in the High Desert
Nitro or Electric? Well when it comes to on road driving and racing you really need to pick your flavor of car. While I do not live in SO Cal most of my stuff is off road. Why you may ask? On Road cars require perfection in setups while Off Roads can get away with inperfections.
I have a Mugen MTX 3 it took me a year to learn how to setup it up and many setups to perfect it. Not trying to steer you into off roads but there are many factors in an On Road racing setup.
My tools for my Mugen MTX 3 when I looked at racing on raod cost me a few hundred bucks. Huddy Setup Board and Suspension Blocks to tune the suspension, Droop gauge, Tires what shore tires to run on road it was 35 to 40 shore on Carpet it was 40 to 45 shore. To get the right traction. Electrics on pavement they do not allow foam tires at many tracks so you have to pick your tread pattern. In my experience on road tires wear out quick and need replacing more often then Off Road tires do. When I ran on road I was replacing rubber tires often on my electrics. Nitros you have to adjust the droop settings as the tires wear down other wise the frame will hit the ground. Many racers will shave the tires so they only run 3 or 4 races to get the car closer to the ground. Yea I looked into years ago. It has been 9 years since I ran on road.
Good bashers onroad nitro is the Team NTC3 http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXGZJ4&P=7 This car is a racer and has been around for many years.
Off Roads do not require the perfect setup but the closer to perfect you get the better run times you will have.
