Default brush motor smoking

So, I have a Tamiya TT-02 and I have a brushed motor in it. I don't remember the brand it is, but started smoking when I was driving it today. I know that Smoking motor is a very bad sign. I don't know why it was smoking. Is it something wrong that I am doing, or is it just a bad motor. I have already replaced it twice. Should I replace the motor with another brush motor, or should I replace it with a brushless motor.

Uhh. Yeah, a bad sign, lol. Take out the motor and hold the car off the ground. Then try spinning the spur gear. If its rough, something's binding or a bushing/bearings gone kaput. If its smooth, you probably just have bad luck.

I meant try spinning the spur gear with your finger. Sorry about that.
