Any TT-01 is AWSOME for drifting! Just add the necessary hop-ups and youve got a drifter!

Can someone clearify this for me.

These are both tt-01's but they are different sizes.
Why is that?

they are both the same car, only the enzo ferrari has offset wheels,to make the chassis width measure out to the 200mm ferrari body.
if you get the HPI vintage wheels in 6mm+ offset, they will fit that 68 camaro body perfect. i run those wheels and tires on a TT-01,and an HPI ram-air trans am body (200mm) and it looks great. between the 2 kits you are looking at, i would get the subaru, just because the ferrari body is just plain fugly. just my 2 cents.

Ok thanks i was actually looking at a different kit but i noticed that one of those was longer than the other and i didnt understand how that could be if they were both tt-01's.

Yes i am gunna get the 26 mm vintage in the front and 31mm with 6mm offsets vintage in the back.

Thanks,
-Matt

cr85nut,you will need the 26mm front wheels to be 6mm offset as well,to get them out to the fenders on that camaro body. you might just consider running the 31mm,6mm offset wheels on all 4 corners, for that vintage road-racer look.also,i am not sure yet what the wear/lifespan of these tires are, and,if you run the stagger set-up you were wanting to,when the fronts start wearing heavier from cornering, you will be stuck,as you can't move them front to back,or vice versa.

as for upgrades........
aluminum propshaft and good quality oil-filled shocks are always a definite addition to this chassis. then, other upgrades depend on the cars purpose. good 27T rebuildable stock motor, and a 22-tooth pinion gives these cars more than enough speed to be lots of fun. a suitable set of tire inserts are a must, even with the kit tires, but there are so many other choices in aftermarket tires and wheels. pick up a tuned spring set,to dial in the cars handling to suit. these cars have lots of potential, and the hop-up selection is huge. checkout ebag, for lots of upgrade parts, and rcmart.com is a great supplier as well. enjoy.

they are all TT-01's,so they will all drift the same. they just come with different bodies, and the XB's come RTR. the TT-01D kit, already comes with alot of hop-ups,and the tamiya drift tires, although, you will soon change those to ABS/PVC tires.

some of them come with different bodies, and different wheels. i am sure the price difference in one to another, has to do with tamiya's out-of-pocket expense to the actual real car manufacturers,as in rights to use that auto-makers name and body likeness. just get the one you like the best, body wise,or,just get the cheapest one,and add your own body. there are lots of the XB's on ebag,at better prices than most internet/LHS suppliers.

48chebbie, I sent you a PM, but I asked the same thing here in case anyone else has suggestions.. I specifically came here to see to see if the Trans Am body would fit on a TT-01. I'm so glad to see that you posted about your car a few days ago. Here is what I plan on ordering. Do you see any thing I am missing (I already have batts and charger) before I place my order:

48chebbie,
Are you running 31mm with 6mm offset rims in the front and back?

Also does anyone know what size ram head lights from tower would be scale with the 68 camaro body?

Thanks,
-Matt

Thanks for replying with the pictures. Next question for you...any tips on painting it? I've never painted an RC car body before. Is it as simply as cleaning the inside, masking out the windows, and lightly spraying multiple coats? I just want it to be black to match my real car so it shouldn't be too big of a deal.

that is pretty much it. i use dish washing soap, just a drop or two,and use warm water. i usually turn the body upside down in the sink, and barely run the water. i use a folded paper towel,to do the wiping. then,i rinse it out thoughly, and wipe out the excess water with dry paper towels, then let it air dry for an hour or so. then mask out the windows, making sure to get the edges, and corners down real good to avoid paint bleeding. on the trans-am body,as with alot of HPI bodies, you don't have to be dead perfect with the window masks,as the decals provide window surround decals. spray on 2-4 light coats,(black covers really fast) and let dry. then, trim out,and decal. i would set the body on,and mark my body post wholes first, with a permanent marker, that way you know where to drill them. you will probably want to invest in a set of curved lexan scissors,or,if you have a real steady hand, you can just score around the trim lines on the body with an exacto knife, and then gently tear the scrap lexan away. have fun!!

everything i can find on it,says that it does not come with the esc, although it is pictured. i would probably just buy an XB (expert built) RTR TT-01 car, that comes with everything, already to go,for the same amount of money, and just add some oil shocks, and an aluminum propshaft. it would be cheaper in the long run,and save you some assembly time. you definitely should try some of the better deals on ebay. save yourself a little dough.just my 2 cents.

the TT-01 is the most widely used drift chassis. it works great out of the box, but, upgrades help. you can buy an XB RTR tamiya TT-01 (any of them) add a set of ABS tires (black 2" abs sewer pipe from home depot, lowes, etc.) and you can be drifting immediately. a set of oil shocks helps handling, and an aluminum propshaft is almost a must,(stock plastic shaft over time will flex and break)and any good 27 turn stock motor with aluminum motor heatsink is the hot ticket. you can also change to a 58 tooth spur/22 tooth pinion, for more RPM,but not needed. some guys like to lock the rear diff, with playdoh,or hot glue, but,it is mostly a preference. skip on over to the drifting section, here on RCU,and read the sticky at the top,it will give you lots of great info.

48chebbie,
I received all of my parts and I have every thing done, up to the point of mounting the body to the TT-01. I have major problem here. My body posts are nowhere near as long as the posts you used.

Can you point me to a link to buy a longer body post that will fit the TT-01? Does Tower Hobbies have them?

Thanks!

tower hobbies has them,or,ebay. you will have to buy a parts tree($5-$7 bucks). i usually have a stock pile of tamiya leftovers, and the kits come with the long body mounts,as the XB's are almost always chopped off. the TT-01 i have my trans-am on,was a kit,so it had those super long posts.
