Hi all.

I have been out of RC for 2 years as my mate left my school,
and so I got bored of off-road nitro's as racing is pointless on your own!

I had an HPI Rush Evo and a Traxxas Rustler, and preferred electric cars..

Now I want an on-road car...

I have a servo and Rx so a kit isn't a problem...

what would you recommend for £100-200??

what Tamiya chassis is best?? the TT-01 seems to have the most kits available but is it any good?

is the HPI Sprint any better than a tamiya TT-01

what is the Hot Bodies Cyclone like?


also can HPI 190mm and 200mm shells fit a tamiya chassis??

Look at the Tamiya TB02 and Cyclone. The TC5 and Tamiya evo series are also nice. Do you want shaft or belt drive?

HPI bodies will fit most 1/10 on road cars. With the 200mm it's best if you use 3-5mm off set wheels.

The TT and Sprint are good entry level cars and have a lot of hopups for each but for tunability spend a bit more first so you dont need to upgrade so much.

Both good race chassis from a UK website but look around and compare prices you will get them ALOT cheaper by shopping around

If its just for carpark bashing the TT-01E or sprint will do fine [8D]

Firstly I will admit that I don't know the advantages/disadvantages of belt and shaft driven RC's...

so time for a quick search unless somebody can explain.

I guess a general run around car is fine, as I wont do too much racing, and IF i did, I would buy a race chassis for that and keep this car as a basher (unless the cars you suggested are ok for low level amateur racing as well??)

are there any common problems with any chassis in particular?? eg weak a-arms etc.??

I think the sprint seems a good buy as is the Kyosho you pointed out, and finally the TA-05..

however the Kyosho TF-5 is the only shafter... are there any other shafters to look out for??

finally what do you prefer for normal driving, shaft or belt??

shaft driven appears to be favored as people say it is more reliable than belt driven... do you agree??

For a general run around fun car, I'd reccomend the tt-01. The cars listed above are good, but are geared more towards racing. Also, there is lots of aftermarket support for it.

Unless you plan on racing, I'd go with a shaft drive car, since they don't have to be replaced over time like belts.

If you`re going shaft then Ì`d suggest the TB-02 or TB-03 over the TT-01. The TT-01 is an ok starter but some of the upgrades that are almost needed are full ball bearings, aluminum shaft and upgraded steering. The rest can be lived with but the TB-02 and TB-03 come with the ball bearings and aluminum shaft out of the box.

would adjustable shocks be a good buy for those chassis?? and do they drive any better than the TT01??

The TT-01 has known sloppy steering (I have 2 and can attest to that). Plus the bushings instead of bearings increase driveline friction which reduces speed and increases the work load on the motor. The stock shaft is ok with the stock 27t motor it comes with but if you put a good motor in the shaft will bend, vibrate... etc.

Just another quick Q..

how does the TA-05 compare... I know it is belt driven not shaft driven, but I have found these cheaper.. and that means I can afford to play a little with my Tx (I only need a Tx and motor/ESC combo)

I am tempted to buy a kit rather than the Sprint 2 or the E-10, for the pure enjoyment of building the kit (and the inevitable frustrations!)

can the TT-01 chassis's steering problem be fixed easily?? or do you need loads of different hop-ups?? ball bearings isn't too bad to buy to replace bushings...

(just in case my bikes wheel buckles again and I have to make sacrifices)

If you really want the TT-01 look at the TT-01E instead. Should not be much more but it comes with better steering right of the bat. The nice thing is the TT-01 can be entirely built with hop ups if you wanted to so almost any part in it can be upgraded except for the limitations to the geometry.
