Default 1/10 RC Formula 1 Cars...lets see'em

1/10 RC Formula 1 cars…lets see’em

Recently I’ve been reconditioning and building old kits that I’ve collected over the years. One of my favorite cars to work on and run is the Tamiya F101, 102 and 103 cars. They’re simple, easy to wrench on and a blast to drive and race. One feature that has me hooked is the realism of the open wheel cars. I know I’m not the only one out here carrying that passion.

So… I have been toying with the idea of starting this thread for sometime. I know there are independent threads for almost everything out there, but I thought it would be nice to start a fresh one that includes all F1’s. I’m hoping people will post up some pics of their car(s). It can be any manufacture and any year (Tamiya F101, 102 103, Kyosho, MLP, CROSS whatever). I’d love to see what others have done or are doing with their cars and car bodies. Feel free to post up pics and discuss what’s new, what you like, dislike, or would love to see. This is a thread dedicated to the 1/10 F1 cars of the world, their owners and their fans.

So here’s my favorite, the Williams FW14…the monkey car of the 90’s. I have two that are works in progress, both F102's, and a third I’ll be starting as soon as I finish a couple of other projects.

That's pretty cool. My neighborhood was recently paved for the first time in 19 or 20 years, (I'm not kidding) making it suitible for
on-road cars, and I've been thinking about getting a Tamiya Tyrell P34 six wheeler.

What up guys. Thanks for the kind words on the Williams. Yes, the hole in the top of the air box is for the antenna tube or rod, which ever you prefer to use. The older body kits use to come with the holes already done. That was kinda nice.

Savage, I know what you mean. I use to drool when I would find a parking lot with fresh asphalt to run on. These cars don't do so well on a dirty serfuce, they do even worse if there's small rocks in the way.

The one thing these cars will do is keep you honest when you run them. You have to be easy on the throttle, easy off the throttle. If you try the 4wd point and squeeze style of driving you wont have much fun.

LB! That was one nice lookin Ferrari...I too had one of those and sold it. I'm still kicken myself in the but over that one. DOH! DOH! DOH!

Below are some pics of my Benetton B198. It's also on a F102 chassis. I used the old school Tamiya titanium screws and added a aluminum shock to it and carbon chassis.

This is my Footwork Honda, also on a F102 chassis. I did the same thing to this one that I did to the B198. I used the old school Tamiya Ti screws, carbon chassis, aluminum shock, aluminum nuts and full bearings.

You should build them! You know they'll get stale if you leave them in the box.

bodies are not pre-painted, Tamiya never made any pre-painted F1 bodies for the F-101/102/103, so yes, good skills are required! they pop up frequently on ebay..

1st, really good job on those cars. They are picture perfect.
2nd, you guys are going to hate me for this. I've been away from rcuniverse for a while with our F1 series we have been running. Saturday the 20th is our 2nd annual F1 Builders Cup event being held this time in Calhoun, GA. Right now we have teams (two cars, two drivers) from Alpha, Hyperdrive, CRC, MLP, Cross, Tamiya, and Associated Racing for the cup which goes to the home office of the winning team. MLP has sent two prototypes for the cup race and one for the regular F1 classes. (6 and 4 cell) Hyperdrive is sending a new car for the Tennessee driver to work out while the other two enter the Cup race with the current car. Cross is using it's standard car as is the Tamiya team. Some talent is also coming in for this with Randy Bailey. Two time national Rally Champion and MX Pro racing a CRC. Alpha F1 bringing Skip Starkey (of Cleveland fame) and Serdar Atymitz the current Turkish champion from Istanbul to try and bring home the trophy for that team. Heath Mahar 3 time F1 AllStar champ for Hyperdrive and the defending Cup champion in 6 cell and DR. Kent Ball the current 4 cell champion for CRC. It will be a killer of a race. I will let everyone know who the 2008 champion is.

Get those F1's ready. There is a LOT more to come for these cars.

Yes, I'm a total loser for leaving you guys out. I will have some of the gang post some pics here from the event. Maybe a spy shot or two of the prototypes that are coming. The last Cup race was in Carbondale, IL and was a hoot. I think the top three was Hyperdrive 1st, HPI 2nd, and MLP was 3rd overall. That was a carpet race. This year is asphalt. The cup cars pretty much don't have any rules other than it has to be an F1 car. Most of the drivers started with 8-12 turn motors then worked up to 19T's I think for the control. Still though they were super fast. One of the Hyperdrives went down the straight so fast it ripped both side airdams off the wing. Then it went from racecar to worlds fastest pinball hitting at least three walls before he could get it stopped...very cool. And if anyone ever ask's those wings are not just for style, they NEED them . This year the cup racers will use 4 cells instead of 6 with any motor then go back to 6 or Li-Po next year. I'm working on a location now for 2009. Southern Ohio would be good as well as Chattanooga,TN since it is central to everything East of the Mississippi. Stand by.

Thanks all for the compliments.

Hey Solo, nice lookin car. Is that the original Futaba car? I had a chance to get one of thsoe and I let it slip through my fingers. DOH!

AH HA! Lee you sould build them. They look better built than they do stored in the box. Granted they do stack easier in the box. LOL What body are you putting it? Give us a tease. LOL

Max, Lee is right the body's don't come prepainted. The only F1 car I know of that came prepainted was the Tamiya F-type body. It was painted bright red was a Ferrari, I think the 2000 car. Those are kinda hard to find right now. They may have others that where prepainted but none that I'm aware of. Thanks for koodoos on the paint jobs. I appreciate it.

I posted up some new pics below.

My Williams FW16 Rothmans

you put me to shame Sir but here mine
I have 4 of the Delphi cars. When you put the options on them they are actually very good. Ball diff kit is a must as is the foam tires. Tamiya wheels fit them and use the F103 steering knuckles. They are stronger. The option shock is way better also. I ran two of them in the 6 and 4 cell classes of the F1 series and came in 2nd overall in both classes last year. Parts are still available through Tower including clear bodies.
