G2 + XP = argh!
OK, I give in.
How do I install my G2, that used to run fine on my old machine + ME, and I can't even install on my new shiny machine + XP?
I have tried upgrading to the latest available G2, new NVIDIA Geforce 4 drivers, new socks and underwear. New Bike in the shed, and it now tells me the transmitter isn't installed!
(argh!)
Can anybody help?

hmm i dont know why everyone has trouble installing this on xp. i put the cd in and mine went in just fine. sorry dave, im not sure how to help with this one. here ya go man.. try this! There is a installation procedure that you WILL have to do for the G2 to run correctly unless Realflight has updated the program. (I doubt they have )
Go to their website and get the "GreatPlanesInstallationFix" (356k file size).
Go ahead and start the install normally. After your computer reboots run the GreatPlanesInstallationFix, then start the G2 program. G2 will then complete installing xpanding the files it needs and will run very well on your system. Do register it so you can get the other upgrades as there are several out in the last 2 years.
XP will see the controller just fine but follow the instructions !

It's all a plot by Bill Gates, and it's obviously working (for him).
Thanks anyway.

I actually have that fix, and it did get me a bit further, but I now am stuck on the transmitter installation.
All suggestions for a solution still eagerly accepted though!
Thanks again.

When you put the cd in. Goto to windows explorer. Open the cd and go to the install.exe file. Right clip on the file and goto properties. Look for compatibility and it will let you select which mode to run it in. (windows 95,98 2000...) Try running it in 2000 and see if it will work. Mine loaded up ok on XP. But this me help get it going anyway.

David,
1. How many USB ports do you have on your machine?
2. Are you using any other USB Devices that work from said ports?
3. Try moving the TX to different USB ports.
4. Is your XP up to date with all the patches, services packs, etc?
(Run Windows update to make sure and install everything - it will make your life easier down the road)
I do remember reading somewhere that there is some kind of USB fix for XP - the earlier builds of XP did not have this.
I will try to find it. In the meantime, run Windows update.
EDIT: OK.... installing Service Pack 1 should cure the USB problem.

also... remove everything you can from the usb ports and only have the mouse (if applicable) and the tx plugged in. i had a conflict between my flight sim joystick and realflight interface. i unplugged the joystick and they work fine by themselves but not together.

Thanks everybody. It works fine now.
The problem I had was getting the transmitter driver installed, as it's not obvious where the two files (realf.ini and realf.sys) are hidden in the website. It's also not exactly obvious that the driver has to be installed as if it is hardware and not software.
Thanks again.
