I just got the latest Tower Talk and see that RF6 is released later this month. I also see that they have an upgrade for anyone who has G4 and up

Notice that it's RealFlight6 and not RealFlight G6 on this go-around.....

My question has to do with the Expansion Packs. I put three Expansion Packs for G5.5 on my Letter to Santa. Does anyone have any scuttlebutt as to whether these Expansion Packs (and for that matter, the old Expansion Packs that they include for free) will work on RF6?

I didn't see any other threads on RF6, so I thought that I would start one.

Any comments on the compatibility of the Expansion Packs from G5??

I talked to them in Chicago at iHobby and the Expansion Packs will work.

That's nice news. And I just found some fine print in the Tower Talk flyer... I think that the Mega Pack will have some of the planes from the Expansion Packs.

Hmmmmm, it looks like something that I'm going to ask Santa for...

I just loaded my RF 6 and the Megapack that is included has the older planes on it. I have not checked against the old expansion packs but it looks like it includes planes from the first 3 packs. Make sure Santa picks from # 4 and up.

Got mine Friday. Main Install DVD is trash, MegaPlanes DVD is ok. I wounder what kind of hassle I am going to have getting replacement DVD from Greatplanes.

I'm considering this RFG6 for training aid. It looks like I can get the heli version with mega air package so the throttle will be smooth for $225 at Tower.

Expansion 1-5 is free, right?

Then have to buy 6 (includes 1-5) , 7 and 8 as a combo or seperate.

This way you get the smooth throttle and these planes:

Pogo XYF-1
Wolf Spyder
FA-22 Raptor

half the planes from exp 3 (free)
all the planes from exp 4 (free)
all the planes from exp 5 (free)
all the extra planes fro exp 6

EDIT onlt the add-on planes are free, not the exp packs. You will not get these 3 planes without buying the exp packs.

Check me on this, but I believe the aircraft from Expansion Packs 1, 2, and 3 are included with the general aircraft provided in the baseline RF6. I've noticed that the purchased 'accessories' for RF6 include Expansion Packs 4-8, but don't include EP's 1 to 3. And, as you say, the Add-Ons 1 to 5 are now free.

Can someone else verify this?

Looks like maybe 1-3 Exp packs are included and you need to purchase 4-8 if you want them.

I didn't make a distinction between add-on and expansion pack.

expansion pack 6 includes all the previous planes and fields from exp pack 1-5.

If you do get the airplane RF6 with air mega pack you do get all of 1 , all of 2 except wolfspyder,pogoxyf-1,FA-22raptor, and about half of them from 3.


Isn't an add-on the expansion pack? This is my first go at this buying software. http://www.realflight.com/addons.html

There are Add-On's packs when RF first was produced.
then after I think G3 the Expansion Packs came out.
From now on I think the will be called Mega Packs.

I have had every version of Real Flight and I have
ALL of the packs Available. I think I still have two
of the older controllers. I have not missed a beat
with this product over the years.

I notice that when getting the heli version (with heli mega pack) all the airfields are the same, but just about half the planes are not included.

Of the half that aren't included all but 2 of them can be had for free thru packs 1,2,3. The 2 (KEtana Glow and travel air mystery ship) that aren't available in packs 1-8 can be had by getting the air mega-pack.

All I've had was a free trial version about 2 years ago when I wasn't into planes at all. About 6 moths ago I got into planes and couldn't run the newest free trial version 5. Then my PC MB blew up and as soon as I got the new PC I was able to then use the latest trial version 5. It was that AND many cheap tiny planes that taught me to fly.

If you are a plane guy, would you like the heli controller instead? My Turnigy 9x has smooth throttle and I like it better than ratchets.

I like the both myself , but you can make the ratchets smooth if you take apart the TX
I fly both, but there are times I like the ratchets and some times I like the smooth

Thanks. What about those two switch/knob that gets places changed with the heli version? Is it that planes like them in one spot and helis like them in the other spots? IDK what they're for since I only use 4 channels so far. I wouldn't want to order the heli controller if those knobs were "wrong" for planes. I couldn't tell which was more common by looking at all my TXs [] Grr, more research.

I myself am more into planes then Heli's these days. But if I were to
order the new RF controller I would order the Heli one if you plan to
do both one day. as it is more important to have the Heli switches
in the correct place, Just my 2 cents worth. I still use my 9UHP (HELI)
for flying my planes myself with no problems.

Thanks, and if the OP doesn't mind and anybody wants me to I will post lists of airplanes in each pack here on this thread and which pack they come in. It is what I did already to figure out how to get the most planes for the least money.

It may take about 12 posts in a row. Maybe on pg 2 would be nice all in a row.

I'll list airplanes only and the number of the expansion pack beside the name (I think) I wish they were all still in my clipboard since I printed them all out yesterday to compare.

Got to thinking at lest your one of the lucky one's
that as that option to order a RF Controller in the Heli ver.

We did not have that option in the past.

ALL the missing planes from RFG6 Heli version are in the Mega AIR pack. They are also in packs 1,2,3 except KEtana (glow) and travel air mystery ship. Also RFG6 doesn't include ANY planes from pack 8,7,6,5,4.

If anyone sees mistakes on my lists let me know. I can edit for 90days maybe?
