Default Computer - Real Flight

I am replacing my laptop and am considering an ASUS all in one computer with a 23" screen. Anyone running something similar? Also, I need to upgrade from real Flight 4.5 to 6.5 has there been any issues with 64 bit/win8 platforms?

Default RE: Computer - Real Flight

I've been using a 64 bit ASUS with a 22 inch Viewsonic for several years. I run RF 6.5 and other than the fact the old controller does not allow smooth operation I've had no problems. I can't see spending more on the new version simulator than a new plane so I've just keep the old RF sim and upgraded. At one point I was using System Mechanic (SM) to turn off background programs and clean system memory. That gave me a smoother running sim. However, support for SM has gone to pot. It's now in India and it cost you. Plus the latest release causes a "Blue screen of death". It seems they (SM) could care less about its users. So, now I use CClean ( check CNET.com for details) to keep the computer clean. But, they currently don't have the ability to turn off background programs.

Hope this helps.

I'm reviewing RF 6.5 right now on a Windows 8 system and it runs perfectly.

There's a slider for graphics so you can set it to whatever your system can handle. Cranked all the way up though the graphics are impressive.

The 6.5 upgrade actually runs smoother with higher frame rates thanks to some optimizations and code changes.

No problems with it under Win7 or Win8, but you must follow the modified installation instructions for Windows Vista and above.
