The best laptop means a little money thrown at the purchase. You need one that has strong graphics (separate GPU card in the laptop) and a high resolution screen of at least (1366x768).
I am temporarily running RF 6.5 on a cheap $300 Acer, but with only photo backgrounds, low visual settings, and marginal, but viewable framerates of about 20-30 frames per second.
I would be sure to follow the optimal recommendation as stated by Realflight.

cmtrex: I run RF 6.5 on a Dell Inspirion N4110 laptop, Intel Core i3-2350M, 2.30Ghz cpu, 6 GB Ram, 64-bit Operating System, no extra graphics card, 15.6" screen. RF runs just fine for me with Warbirds, photo fields, realistic physics setting. Haven't tried 3-D or helicopters.

I have run an HDMI output from the Dell to a 40" flat TV. Looked pretty good.
