Hesitation while flying AFP
Hey gang,
I don't really think this is an FPS issue but...I installed AFP about a week ago with no problems. I am getting about 50-60 FPS and it was working fine. Lately I've been getting a quick hesitation any time the plane is in motion. 1-2 seconds of motion, quick hesitation, 1-2 seconds ok, hesitation and so on. I'm not much of a computer guy but I think my system is adequate.
Pent 4 2.0 GHZ, 256 mb Ram, 512 Cache, 64mbDDR NVIDI GeForce4 MX card, No other programs running that I know but I'm sure there are things running in the background...I'm not sure what programs I can shut down without causing problems and I really don't think I should have to go in and shut things down every time I want to fly. ( I used to have to do that all the time with the old RF-G2 before they fixed that problem).
Any hints or ideas would be appreciated,
thanks
Steve

I was having a similar problem. I opened my CPU monitor and found that I had a process that hogged the cpu every 55 seconds.
I turned off just about every unnecessary service with no luck. Finally I downloaded and ran AD-Aware and Spybot. These two programs found and removed about 20 spyware programs from my PC. No trouble after that.

Which version of Nvidia driver are you using ? Sometimes the latest version work well. If not, try installing an older version. For details check out http://www.nvidia.com/page/home

download ad aware and run it. You may have spyware programs running in the background. Also weatherbug, screenshots anything like that will take up time occasionally.

I update my driver and ran Ad aware. Things seem to be better now. FPS is right around 60, not high but it seems to run ok to me. Thanks for tips guys

Mine runs at around 100-130 fps but every now and then the screen freezes up for a second. It doesn't do it every time or every day. This is what seems to affect it: scenery type, having trees and animals, clouds, and smoke enabled. It's kind of rare but when it starts doing it, it does it often. I haven't nailed down the source because it really doesn't do it to a point that bothers me. Usually it stops and then I don't see it for a while. I keep the sky blue and turn off the trees and animals. I do like the smoke on now and then though.
I have a Dell P4 2.4 gig proc, nvidea FX 5200 (latest driver), and I have the latest AFP patch.
I think all the advice given here is good. There are a lot of things going on in our pc's and it's hard to tell what's causing the problem. You can also increase the priority of the AFP program as a process. I don't quite understand how to change the disk caching. Anyone?
