Default Most fun I've had since flying real planes!

Just got my copy and am I having a blast! Not just flying as RC but from the cockpit as a "real" plane. If you haven't tried this yet I highly recommend it.

Try this: Start record and take up your favorite plane from Ohmenhausen in the cockpit view. Go buzz the flight line, the farm and cows, then head for the river and get on the deck and run it. Careful as the trees get mighty close so some knife edge may be required in spots. Then replay the recording and fly either chase or in the cockpit again trying to stay right on the tail of the recorded planes flight. Don't worry about hitting yourself as air-to-air collisions don't occur. This is better than most conventional flight sims I've tried and even more fun than most combat flying. I LOVE IT!

BTW, this specific "river run" is very much like what a pilot friend of mine and I did in an Aeronca Chief and Piper 140 when for awhile we both owned separate planes. Nothing this "dangerous" but it sure brings back some exciting memories!

Now if only you could pan the view out the cockpit and scale up the planes to full size.....humm....

Wow, what a great idea. I tried it and love it too. Didn't know you could do that.

Also try the scenery islesmall:

Pass through the aircraft hangar, under the bridge, directly through the small village and through the wind rotors. The blades get moving if you add some wind. But don't get hit by them. There is even a tunnel if you approach the island from the sea.

Also the USA scenery contains lots of nice places, eg a top gun passage through the Grand Canyon.

Those are cool also. Probably not a new idea, but anyone exchanging flight recordings? If so, anyone want my river run to play with I'm more than happy to email it. Getting from one end to the other without crashing with a 3 meter span plane at 100% speed isn't easy. Least not for me!

I'd like to have it. Don't have one to send back, not that good at it.
Just have to figure out how to get my PM to work.

Got the recording. Thanks a lot.

I put it on and it works great.

I can't keep up with you unless I reduce the simulation speed.

I need practice.

Thanks again.

That's the nice thing about AFPD is the adjustments available. Until I lowered the sim speed and practiced, I couldn't get very deep into the river brush without hitting a tree. Worked my way up from about 50% to 100% once I learned the curves and got lucky for the recording.

There's a couple overhangs you must go under BTW. Easiest way to learn to follow the lead plane is to stay high and learn the course it takes before trying to follow close. A padlock following view would be great for that. If you lose sight, then head for the next place you know it will end up and you'll usually spot it. Punch it and you can catch up very easy with a powerful plane since I only flew at about 1/2 throttle.

My buddy and I used to "walk on water" with the wheels of our real planes. What a rush that is! Don't try it in the sim unless you have a float plane however as it won't work.

Is there a wishlist somewhere for improvements for AFDP? If not and the right person reads this, adding spray off the floats and water sound (besides splash) would be a nice feature.

That is fun. I hadn't tried that feature until this thread. I finally figured out how it works and, WOW.
I would like to try the recording too.
I might even try to make one.
Does it matter if you you PRO or Deluxe? I have PRO

I don't know for sure as I've only got Deluxe and only for a few days. Maybe someone else knows. I'd imagine you'd need the same scenery and plane installed at least. I think AFPD will run Pro planes but not the other way around? I'll sent it anyway and you can test it.

Hardlock: Got your recording this AM. Works good, AFPD and AFP PRO seem to work together just fine. really hard to follow, Great fun. I found my best settings were to back off on follow strenght and open up field of view. Boy, this will really sharpen up your thumbs. I am going to make a recording.
Here is a pic of both of us on the tarmac.

Hardlock: Tried to play the recording that you sent me yesterday, again this morning. It won't work. It was fine and worked great yesterday. Now when I try to load it. I get the message about some error and AFP is shutting down. The other recordings I have, that I made on my computer yesterday all work fine. I deleted the one you sent, went back to your email, unziped it , and reloaded it again and it is still the same, won't work. What could possibly go wrong???? When I look in the recording folder I find that the ones I made have a REC file and a SHD file. The one I receiver from you only has a REC file. But so what?????[sm=confused.gif][sm=confused.gif][sm=confused.gif]
It worked that way yesterday, why not today??
I don't want to give up on this it is too much fun.

Ken: I got the new river-run you sent me, loaded it up and it did not work. But here is what I found. I load one of the recorded flights, clear it, then load yours, it works perfect. If I do it in that order it works every time.
?????????????
Here I am chasing you with a OMP HYBIRD.
Anybody else have any recordings they can send?
